First the Rotary Revelation battery debacle, now this............ I went in today to my local jewler to have the battery replaced in my Tissot PRS 516 for the first time. He said that this is a complicated procedure and I could come back in a week for the watch. He told me it would cost between $35 and $40 for the procedure. Otherwise I would need to send it to the factory to have the battery replaced. Something about how it is a sensitive operation to switch the battery due to the chronograph complication. Does this sound correct to you guys? Have any of you had a battery change in a PRS516? If this is not correct, I will go in on Monday and pick up the watch before I am overcharged. Thanks for your help. |

This is what the manual says for battery replacement. Replacing the battery Once it has run out, the battery should be replaced without delay by an official TISSOT ® dealer or agent. 1.55 V Battery, No. 394, SR 936 SW. |

He may send it to Tissot himself for repair and charge you enough money to pay Tissot and himself. I would get the watch back and contact Tissot myself, they'll tell you what to do. |

I have replaced batteries in my quartz chronos without problem as well as my dual retrograde Tissot and it doesn't get much more complicated than that...it's just a battery replacement as far as I know:D |

Doesn't sound right to me. That is a very common battery for one thing, and I can't imagine what would be so special about its replacement. Maybe putting the back on would require a special tool this guy doesn't have or something. But, I too have put in a number of batteries in chronos and regular watches and $40 seems excessive. Luminox charges $35 for a lithium battery replacement. However, it is a 10 year battery and they replace the seal and check for water resistance, etc. |

Sounds like a total line of bull to me and anyone who charges more than $10 max to change a battery is robbing you. Most places I do business with charge $5 and I have had some do it for free in the past just because the watch was one that had never held before. Should be a 2 to 5 minute job or less. But that is another reason I have been going away from standard quartz. |

I don't have a Tissot QUARTZ, but I do have a Seiko SKA281 Chronograph (BECAUSE MY WIFE GAVE IT TO ME). I took it to my local watchguy and paid $15 for a battery change with "free lifetime replacement". So, did this guy ask you to bend over while you were talking to him??? BTW.....BATTERIES SUCK! |

The guy's handing you a load of crap! I took my PRS 516 to a local watch maker and he replaced the battery for $10 and pressure tested the snap on back as a courtesy (it's only 50 m WR-- not like it needs special diver pressure testing equipment). What's the big deal? The movement's a run of the mill ETA G 10, perhaps the most common Swiss quartz chrono movement -- almost as ubiquitous as a 2824. This Tissot and Tag both have the same movement: Attachment: Tissot vs Tag 01 lrg_post.JPG (Downloaded 31 times) |

I'm heading back tomorrow to pick up the watch. Maybe I should learn how to change the batteries myself. About 40% of my wathches are quartz. BTW, thanks for all of the replies. In retrospect, I should have not given it to him unti I checked here first. :(:(:( |

While it sounds expensive, find out if he is sending it to Tissot for battery replacement and pressure check? I'm guessing that Tissot recommends pressure testing after replacement, and perhaps your guy isn't capable of that? Just a thought. |
