ok...now don't laugh......how come sometimes

the lume on my seiko is like a beacon and other times is dull?

Well it can depend how long it was in the light and depending on if it was charged up with artificial light or the sun can make a little difference too.

Can you go into more detail on the circumstances you notice the differences in?

I was asking myself the exact same question until I realized lume on my watches always stands out more after my eyes have adjusted to the dark.  Just a thought

Non-radioactive lumination, like that found on 95% of watches, is passive. Basically, it gets 'charged' by light, natrual or otherwise. It doesn't take long for it to 'charge'.

So, if its a bright sunny day and you are outside for a few minutes, then come inside to a dim area, you will see it glowing like a beacon. After a few minutes, it will gradually fade from its initial brightness.

The Seiko will go the distance, meaning, if you were in a dark room, and looked at it after 8 hours (like sleeping), it will still be visible to your eye.
