I'm considering a new sports tourer for a trip next summer from Ireland to Southern Spain.

I've toured Europe for the last 5 years on a Honda CB500, a Transalp, VFR800 and my favourite so far, the R1150GS.

Nothing beats the GS on the twisties but I reckon the new VFR will be an awesome package with 170bhp and shaft drive.  My VTEC VFR was built to perfection but lacked power two up with luggage.

What do the motorcyclists among you think?

you can't go wrong with a VFR and a big one is even better. you might also consider the ST1300.

Sounds like a pretty demanding trip, I'd go for the 1200GS.  Spent some miles on one and you just can't beat their versatility (wheelies damn good too).

I think that the VFR has always been a great touring bike and with more juicy juice will only be better. I did a couple grand worth on my RSVR last year around the uk, france, germany and switzerland and I can NOT recommend for touring. But it is great for Swiss and German roads. Good luck with your decision.

I'm a tractor driver, Harley Road King. For sporties if you are leaving the BM's one of my riding pals has the ST-it is fast, huge tank, lot's of useful accesories and tons of storage. It is so fast he usually has the first beers set up for my arrivaltoon1.gif
