I just picked up this Timex E-Instruments tide/temperature/compass at the post office and it is sweet: One of my son's friends has one, and as soon as I saw it I knew I needed one :D I am expecting a Nike Lance analog altimeter/chronograph as soon as the UPS guy comes. Photos to follow... Between the two I have altimeter, compass, temperature, tide indication and a chrono. No barometer but for me, the analog indicators on these two are totally cool! Cheers, Griff |

It's model T45581. There are a few different dial/strap combos, check out the e-Instruments collection on the Timex website. There are 5 different colors for the watch I bought. There are also just compass models and tide/temperature models. I have the Maratac version of one of the compass only models, it is a great watch too. Initial impressions, it is well built for the price (running around $110 on the Bay. I paid 90 bucks with a PayPal coupon I had.), nice PVD finish, comfortable rubber strap. The bezel is friction rather than stepped, but it is firm enough that an accidental bump won't shift it from your set bearing. The lume isn't the greatest but it does have an Indiglo backlight too. As with another black dial Indiglo Timex I own, the backlight doesn't work as well as it does with a white dial but I expected that. The compass is very accurate and declination can be set, in my case 12 degrees West. The plain stick hands are timekeeping, the long two colored hand is the compass needle/temperature and tide indicator pointer which does have a spot of lume at the red tip. The red end is the "North" end, and also shows the temp and tide status. Typical of all my temperature watches, the reading is a combination of ambient and wrist temperature since it is measuring the temp of the case. I have found that if I subtract 12-14 degrees from the reading it is pretty much right on the money for ambient temp. All of the ones I own suggest removing the watch for at least 15 minutes in shade to get an accurate reading. Casio allows you to calibrate the temp sensor for your wrist, but that could be misleading so I leave it set to factory calibration. The Timex doesn't allow temp calibration. I looked up the tide information for Ocean City, MD (my brother-in-law has a place there so we go to that beach) and adjusted the setting which took just a few seconds. You do have to know the tide tables initially to set the watch, then it is pretty close for that locale. Time keeping is spot on of course since it is quartz. The second hand lines up fairly well (unlike my Maratac which drove me crazy until I decided to ignore it). If you have trouble with busy dials it might not be the best watch choice, but since I have been a chrono nut I love it hearteyes.gif Oh yes, the diameter is exactly the same as my Orsa Sea Angler hand6.gif Cheers, Griff PS The Nike Lance analog alti-chrono came late this afternoon.
