Well...the "new to me" Hamilton X-Wind arrived today courtesy of the postman!!!woohoo.gif

I must blame someone for this...so I am going to blame Brice (aka Jeep99dad)...his recent Hamilton Khaki Navy GMT Poseidon pickup had me looking quite a bit at Hamilton timepieces when researching his piece...I almost picked up a GMT Poseidon and then (as you WIS's know), I got distracted and rather smitten with the Hamilton X-Wind on the nice brown Hamilton leather strap.

As the subtitle description states, this is my first Hamilton and my first Valjoux 7750 and I am very, very impressed and happy with my choice!!!  I really like the history of the Hamilton brand and this X-Wind is one of those watches that looks so much better in the flesh than in photos (see pics below, but IMO pictures don't do this piece justice).

I really love the details and execution on this one...the dial work is fantastic from the nicely machined raised numerals, to the guilloche textured sub-dials on the chrono, to the raised lume dots on the dial...great work here and for the price I paid for this gently used one I am stoked.  The only thing I would like to see on this one is an AR coated crystal (especially a dual AR coated crystal which would really make this beautifully detailed dial pop!!!)

The size on this one is in the perfect range for me (44mm diameter, 15mm thick) and when I slipped this on for the first time, it just felt perfect (very comfortable with nice wrist presence and the Hamilton leather is really soft, thick, and nicely constructed)!!!  I noticed the pics make it look like the chrono tip is slightly off center, but it is just the angle, all chrono tips center perfectly on the dial and on the subdials.

I knew going in to this that I would never use the cross-wind calculator on the rotating inner dial and bezel (there is also some use for this on the caseback as well...I'll have to take a look at the owners manual to figure out how this is supposed to work).  The caseback has a shaped "viewport" to view the Hamilton engraved rotor and the standard Valjoux 7750 calibre.

All in all...I'm a happy WIS....here are some pics including reveal:

Well, I will sound very original but, this is also my favorite Hamilton.  Chris, you really have same taste as me for watches :D...I cannot tell you how many times I looked a this watch and...never pulled the triggersubtlelaugh.gif  I saw the watch in person, and like you said, it's a lot of a watch and a real bargain IMHO! That's an original watch with a great engine...  Also agree on the perfect size  hand6.gifhand6.gif.  There is just too many watches out there mistake.gif Anyway, big congrats for your first Hami and first 7750, wear it in good health my friendwoohoo.gif

Forgot to say, great pix!!! Well done hand6.gif

Bill, Nabco, Skipdawg, Scott, Daniel, GX9901....thank you guys for the kind words and Congrats!!!!thankyou.gif

Wow...had no idea this one was so well loved...but as those that have seen it in person know...it's a very well made, high quality piece, and a fantastic value to boot!!!!

I forgot to point out that the screw down crowns (all three) on this Hamilton, are some of the smoothest I have experienced on any watch...just one of those little things that reminds you it's a well built piece.

Daniel - :D ...you know you have some good taste in watches yourself...we seem to like alot of the same stuff...and I agree 1000%...just too many darn good watches out there...I regularly get distracted while chasing something, only to find out that it drifts out of my near term memory while chasing something else...ah, this WIS disease is debilitating isn't it!!! subtlelaugh.gif

Well Brice...as you read above, I'm blaming you for this in getting me interested in the Hamilton lineup.

...the wife seemed ok with it once I assured her it was all your fault!!!subtlelaugh.gif

Congrats Stew..that is a nice one. Love the dial layout especially that no #'s are chopped off by the sub dials and tha day/date is a nice feature.

Enjoy that one perfect.gif
