My parents are doing some renovations at their place. When visiting them, I saw in a drawer, along some old quartz watches that belong to my father, the following ole fellow:![]() It belonged to my grandfather, and looks like it is working pretty well! It is nicely sized for a vintage (35mm w/o crown), and it belonged to my grandpa! Although the case shows wear, the crystal and dial are in very good shape. I guess it would be hard to renovate/polish, unless I get all the gold plating out. Suggestions? Should I leave it as it is, or attempt something? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

just as you are, in a way, a re-creation of your grandfather...so should you fix/do something with this watch...sort of re-create it on your wrist. very rare you find something so extremely valuable that you can't put a price on it! |

I timed it and it is +60 s in 24 hours, which is good I guess for a watch made a long time ago, and has been stopped for at least 30 years... Will see how it goes from here. Two issues, though. First, the hour hand is not well aligned, it is at the hour when the minute hand at around 45. Also, when I adjust the time, the hour hand movement is not smooth. Probably some teeth damage in one of the wheels? The "elastic" bracelet (German made gold rolled Fixoflex, as stated inside it) needs some cleanup, and is a bit tight on my wrist, so I put it on a black strap. It looks pretty good, in my opinion. What do you guys think? ![]() |

Looks great on that band. Don't have it restored, but just have it serviced. Congrats on your find. Stu |

I'd leave it alone. The wear tells a story that is personal to you- you can't buy that. |
