Hey all. I have wanted one of these for ages, but always backed off when the condition wasn't in line with the price being asked. Finally found a nice one. It has just endured a 3 week journey from Turkey to finally land on my wrist here in Oz. Omegas from the '70s are very interesting to me. Case reminds me of the new designs from E*** M******. This one is jewel-like in its condition, caseback is excellent, strap is original, clasp works like a charm, quickset day and date are perfect and the independently adjustable hour hand reminds me of the Seamaster 1200 I am still saving for. Next up - an electroquartz (when I find one for the right price...). Hope you enjoy the seller's pic. Wristies soon. Cheers, IanM ![]() Last edited on Wed Jun 2nd, 2010 02:29 am by IanM |

Interesting and good looking vintage... Glad for you that you finally found it! I'm more in mech-movts but I was about to buy an Omegamatic Seamaster 2-3 years ago as the price was good: It's builded like a "kinetic" system. Seems like they are rare by now: Heard about them IanM?... |

Hi Hammer! Thanks for the thoughts! Yes, sir, I have heard of the Seamaster 200 Omegamatic! Omega ref: 2514.50.00 for the black dial (not sure about the model number for the silver dial version, but it will probably be a "30" instead of the "50" in the model code). Quite a rarity, that one. From memory - it used a calibre 1400, the base of which is the rhodium plated ETA 205.111. It was not thermocompensated and had optional manual wind to get the initial power to the capacitor. The capacitor was changed to a rechargeable battery in the replacement ETA 205.911 from 1996, which is a neat way of getting value for using that manual wind option! Omegamatics like this with a 36mm case size were available between about 1996 or so to about 2000 or so. Beautiful watch, with raised 5 minute marker segments on the bezel, and indentations between. Skeleton hands and a date magnifier, from memory?? (Given their age - many have battery leaks, so be ULTRA careful if still looking...). Some of the earlier quartzies from Omega show a design direction that is kinda missing from the latest versions. Grail watches from the 70's, for me, are a solid gold f8192 electroquartz Like you, Hammer, the bulk of my collection is mech-movements and autos. I defer to the knowledge of the wonderful Graham when it comes to chrono's, though. The quartzies are just a diversion from the "true calling", but there are some really interesting models and variations which catch my eye from time to time, and just say "buy me"! Thanks for the heads up, Hammer - and if you come across any more interesting variations - please let me know! Your feedback is appreciated! Oh - and just so that Oscar knows - no, I can't get an Omega mesh to fit this one!!! Cheers - Ian |

Ok Ian! Thanks for the infos! I had heard some people who was worried about the longevity of the battery in fact. I was expecting that they would just not get loaded anymore but the leaking side is not attractive...Specialy when this acid leakage can dammage other components/parts near by... Anyway, I wasn't specialy hunting for one of them. I prefer to go for a mechanic...Maybe a speedmaster type one day. Good luck in your chase! |

Ian, I like the very refined look and the simple and clean dial. You are so right about how the case looks similar to the new released E*** M******. Enjoy it when it arrives |

Beauty! I have a couple of these, in different styles & love them - batteries last a bit less than a year in my experience. The strap in particular is very cool - those rarely survived, let alone in such nice condition! |

natevan70, BRP, Pax, Darkman, edgel and ndburley ~ thanks guys! BRP - the watch has arrived, but my darned flat camera batteries must be replaced before I get shot happy! Am wearing it as we speak! First silver dial Connie I have had, and after a day of "settling down" it has now gained 5 seconds in 24 hours. Not perfect - but maybe after some more settling and a tweak at the watchmaker for regulation and a new battery and a clean-up of the internals, it will likely improve. Side note - why don't more strapmakers use the strap mechanism on these early Omegas? A small and simple cam extends or retracts two pinheads on each side of the strap on each end of the strap into the recessed ridges on the clasp. Neat, quick, very accurate. Shots to follow to explain... will try to get them to you today. Cheers all! Ian |

Big Congrats, IanM. I know the feeling. It's like bumping into a long, lost friend. I'll await pics of what you said about the strap mechanism. It's got me thinking. Enjoy it in good health. |

Cheers froschd and omegaman! Thanks for the kind words! This is a sweetie and it will be an ongoing part of my collection, for sure. Discovered that a silly offer I made was just accepted on the bay this morning, so another megaquartz 32 is on its way. This one is a squared GP case with gold face, on aftermarket brown leather, and 37 W x 43 lug to lug and exposed lugs, which will make strap changes a breeze. I figure that at these prices, if one eventually fails, I will at least have a spare movement... and on a 22mm brown croc strap, this newest member of the family will rock, for sure. This makes three little 'uns I have bought recently. The other is an Elgin Swissonic which I bought out of curiosity. It will be on the market again pretty soon, because the mega 32s will for sure get more wrist time. Off to get camera batteries today so I can show y'all the latest acquisitions in the next few days. Cheers! Ian |

BRP - your wish is my command! Photo is of the clasp - before it was thoroughly disinfected and cleaned!![]() If you look at the LHS of the strap end, there is a circular cutout in the SS end - it contains a recess in which you can insert a 3mm flat headed screwdriver. When activated clockwise, it retracts 4 (two each side) small "nipples" which seat into the recesses you can see "in front of" the SS strap end - they are the ridges on the sides of the clasp itself. The leather part of the strap slides freely within the safety of the clasp sides, because the rolled in shoulders are only "guides" - they do not lock the strap into position. The screw device locks like a beauty. Easy to tighten, loosen and adjust. Just another Omega oddity, BRP ~ but it works well. Hope the pic is clear enough for you to distinguish the details. I have two more megaquartzies incoming ~ both gold plated cushion case models with gold face, dial and hands, and simple, original leather straps which have Omega "big buckles" (that just means that the Omega logo extends past the end of the buckle, as opposed to being stamped or imprinted on the buckle itself as is the case with some of these older Omegas). I mention the buckles because new ones are about as costly as the entire watches have been off the 'bay... Buying these has just been a bit of fun - cos they are for sure very reasonably priced at the moment. I decided to splurge before our dollar crashes again :( Pics to follow when they arrive (it takes about 10 working days minimum ~ I have learned to be patient...). Have a good weekend 3T.
