I actually use 4 "sweepers"

adaware SE, Spybot, Spy Sweeper & MS Anti-Spyware.  The MS & Spysweeper will run in the background and the free versions of the others are excellent.  adare SE seems to catch the most.  Unfortunately, unlike anti-virus software, the spyware definition databases are not very universal.

Been using Spybot, MS Ani-Spyware, and Spyware Doctor for some time now......have found the Doctor, recommended by PC mag., to be the best.

Recently added AVG Anti-Virus, free edition--excellent, 'cept it takes 33 mins. to run a full scan.

I'd been using Spybot too! Very useful! But until recently I installed the Smiley Central, I did not use it anymore cos it removed the Smiley central toolbar.

Actually I can delete selective ad-wares and prevent the smiley central from being deleted. But....I am too lazy! :P
