Well, I live in an unincorporated, suburban section of Houston. Because Houston's ban against fireworks doesn't apply here, people feel free to set off various forms of sky rockets...with no knowlege or consideration of where they will come down. Many homes have cedar shake roofs and there are dry pine trees and pine needles in abundance, unlike common sense. I just returned from a walk wih my rottie and saw the flames of some poor family's home. The fire seemed to have fully consumed the house. There were also numerous EMS units at the scene, hopefully just as a precautionary measure. Too bad. |

Wow, that really sucks! Hopefully the family is okay. Such a shame a second of mental stimulus takes out a lifetime of memories for somebody. It is really quiet here at 8 pm, No fireworks allowed except for city programs, last year the same law but you could hear them all over and see them all over, this year it seems that people are obeying the law? Or are broke from putting gasoline in theyre car? Stay Safe |

That's a pisser indeed. sorry to hear of the family's misfortune. I missed fireworks when I lived in California. Not even sparklers were allowed in the Santa Clara Valley. I witnessed the Oakland Hills fires in 1991 and their aftermath and I fully understand Cali is a tinder box. After all aren't there four season in Cali? Fire, Flood, Earthquake and what's the other? We go nuts here as do most folks in the neighborhood. Water at the ready. Safety first but we're pretty moist too... ;) |

Fireworks going off in every direction here. I have a water hose hooked up out back and up front just in case. I have music playing loud in the house and that seems to be helping the cats cope with all the bangs some but you can tell they are rattled and nervous. |
