I just purchased a new, last years model Gander Mountain pro select…Medium Action 6’6” 2 piece IM8 Graphite Spinning rod adorned with Fuji Aluminum Oxide Guides with Fuji reel seats for $39.99 today. When I paid up I asked the cashier what the warranty is,,,He said.. beginning this year you have to purchase a warranty ( in the past, if the rod broke in the first year or two they would replace it no questions asked) I said ok and did not purchase the warrenty..but on the way home I thought…Cabellas is right down the road 5 miles, I know they stand by their products…I’m not likely to find a rod with these specs on closeout…I would probably have to pay $25-30 more the equivalent rod but I would have the peace of mind for 2yrs that any issues would be handled without question. But…I love a deal! And this rods a steal of a deal:)…so..what would you advise? Dang!! Is this 3T the watch forum!? Shoot..:?I confused it with 3T ( Tilapia,Tuna and Trout) forum…oh well,, very sorry…anyway...any advise? Attachment: 37861741.jpg (Downloaded 53 times)

I dont think I have ever broken a rod while fishing. The end got broken off of one from an accident. That wouldnt be gaurenteed anyway. Chances are you will be fine. If you are unsure, see if you can still buy the warranty. If not, go to Cabellas.

Well.. for anyone who cares (since this thread is so populer;)) I read an article on graphite rods, specificly I wanted to know the real difference between the grades im6,im7,im8 and while reading I discovered the slightest nick in these rods will destroy there integrity and they will snap. So, I looked closer at this rod and sure enough there is a nick about 10"s from the tip. So, they put it on clearance, eliminated their no questions asked warrentys..knowing full well this rod is going to break. I'm taking it back and never doing business with GM again and then heading for Cabela's..... (who have top shelf customer service IMHO).

I've done some rod and reel fishing but very little and with borrowed rods. Most of my fishing days were in my youth with a good old cane pole on a lake, pond or river. :D

Skipdawg...If you golf.. you know the advances in modern equipment is light years ahead of the old, that equipment is very precise and offers a lot fun for the average guy to play with. The new stuff for fishing is similar.

Yea, you can get alot of money tied up in fishing equipment. I used to have both salt and fresh tackle when I live d in Fla. Now that I am back in Pa, all I have are a couple of old uglysticks for trout and bass. Hell, I cant even remember when I used my boat last. Have to try to get it out this year.
