When I left the Active Army in 1997, I left with a lot of personal shame. I had stepped on my crank pretty hard and had gotten a Field Grade Article 15(non-judicial punishment) and had the max punishments levied against me, including a reduction to the lowest enlisted grade. To make matters worse for me, I had just made the cutoff for promotion to Sergeant, but hadn't been promoted yet. Flash forward 8yrs and I decide to enlist in the National Guard and started completely over in the enlisted ranks at the lowest grade, but understanding that this came with the territory due to my past transgression. After enduring the the progession from Private to Corporal, to include the 'Corporals Curse', i.e. being a Corporal for several years and having all the responsibilties, but none of the pay for the position I was filling. I'm now proud to say that one week ago today I was promoted to rank of Sergeant in the United States Army snoopy1.gif

This has been the first oppurtunity I've had to share the good news with my 3T friends and wanted let everybody know.

It takes courage to be open and frank about things like these.

What is "stepped on my Crank" if you do not mind me asking? is it a term or saying?

Thanks to all who have responded. I feel that this is a milestone for me personally as I had this as a goal when I enlisted. I'm not sure what my next goal is at this point and need to give it some serious thought. Initially I just want to make it through this next deployment and afterwards I'm not sure. Some college maybe... and a new watch :)

nd.... 'stepping on your crank' is a polite way of say I tripped on my dick and screwe me up in a bad way.

Oh thanks, never heard of that one before it must be the difference over the pond again.
New watch is always a good goal. toon1.gif

Tripped, stepped... no matter to me.  You're persistence and dedication to your life, family, and the United States of America are sincerely appreciated by me and this fine country.  Congratulations.

overoclock and Devin... Thank you. I can't begin to describe how happy I am and how strange it is to think of myself as and to be addressed as Seargeant.

Sorry about that. Apparently we both posted at the same time and that's how I missed you. I've definately taken my share of lumps due to poor decision making and have learned a great deal from it. Thanks.

Great news, Sarge!

Murph - it DOES take guts to admit past mistakes, but rest assured that anyone who says they didn't stuff up in a past life is truly yanking your chain.

Even more - to go back to scratch and start all over again, takes determination and shows exactly why you were chosen to go up the ranks.

Fabulous news, and you have my sincere congratulations, Jeff.

Ian.... Thank you Sir. It's very gratifying to me that other members here have mentioned hard work and learning from mistakes. I do feel I've learned a lot from my past experiences and that I've worked hard to make up for them. I love being a Soldier even if it's only part time now and I know it's something I was meant to do. Thank you all again for your kind responses.
