A sad day for me. I had a chance to meet and talk to Dan in the pits of the 2008 Iowa Corn 250 and let me tell you this guy was real not a nice fake guy but your next door neighbor from any town USA! Dan won the 2008 Iowa Corn 250 and donated 100% of his winnings to the flood recover here in Iowa!
I was watching todays race and had a bad feeling about 34 cars going 225MPH on a 1.5 mile track and 13 laps in we lost one of the best guys in Indy car racing!
Like I said sad day for me...
RIP Dan you will not be forgotten here in Iowa or the racing world over!

Tragic to hear of this. I just caught the crash flipping channels this afternoon. Watched it until the commercial and then went back to NFL action. I was shocked to later hear Dan Wheldon was killed in the crash. Very sad news for such a brilliant driver and from all accounts an outstanding human being.

Sometimes our sports are so sanitized and cleaned up we forget the true danger these elite athletes face. That's why I watched the crash, thought it was horrific and then surmised all was well... big mistake. Our thoughts are with the family and team.
