After wearing it last week for the Marine Corps' 233rd birthday, and then for Veterans Day, I decided I needed a change from the black NATO strap that's been on it for a couple years now. Decided to try a green canvas strap, more in keeping with its jungle heritage! On a lark I tried opening the back (first time ever) with my case wrench but it wouldn't budge. Very shallow indentations make it difficult to gain a good grip. Maybe it'll be another 42 years before it gets its first servicing! ![]() ![]() |

The straps is a great fit for that watch. Awesome to see a watch that has been around the block a few times and some holding up so well. ;) yourock.gifyourock.gifyourock.gif |

Hi Tom, After many years of storage it sounds like the gasket that fits inside the back cover has deteriorated and has now seized itself onto the watch. This would explain the difficulty of removing the back. When you do take your Caravelle into servicing, also ask to retest the watch for water resistancy. This would insure many more years of enjoyment. Another nice timepiece with even more historical value. Cheers, Simon |

Glycine Airman, kinda sounds like a Rock Band from the 1970's. On more serious note, this was one heck of watch that were owned by fighter pilots during the conflict in Vietnam. Cheers, Simon |

My apologies to Ken, that I didn't know he was in an Infantry Battalion in Nam. Over the years, I heard my father wished that he had served in Vietnam in the 1960's on the side of the U.S. Looking back on it, I am glad that he didn't and even if he did serve. I would have had to live with the first few years of public backlash of an unpopular war. I would still gave him "Thanks" because he fought for a cause that he believed in. Even though,Secr. of State MacNamara admitted that he lied to Pres. Johnson over the affairs in Vietnam. Of course, that was many years ago and a lot has changed...from someone who is old enough to remember the Fall of Saigon,in 1975. To all my American Friends who served their country... THANK YOU! |

Bonus Point) I don't give a damn about the fall of Saigon! |

It seems I own everyone an apology for what I've wrote as I didn't mean to bring up old wounds. The choice of words were of poor judgment but in my heart I still think what the U.S. soldiers and their ARVN Counterparts did was right at the time of Communist Aggression during the 1950's and 1960's. I hope that anyone reads this statement, can accept my apology. If not there is no hard feelings. Sincerely, Simon |
