Hi Oscar!

Not much cooking going on this weekend, as the wife and I are trying out a new restaurant today (will try to take some pics, but my camera is titsup).
Tomorrow will be easy cooking for some german-style Wiener Schnitzel. Here are some pics from an earlier session:

Ingredients:

Meat (preferably Pork, but veal will do, too),

Some fries

Can of baby carrots and peas (Essential for the German Style Wiener Schnitzel)

Some organic lemons for taste

First, beat the pork until it has about double size (it's the same slice as pictured above):

Cut the slices in half so they will fit in the pan.

Then fix the Panade (usually flour, battered egg and breadcrumbs, but I was a lazy ass and used some readymade panade with milk:

Ready for the pan:

Next, get the fries going

and put the carrot/peas on the stove, add some butter:

Put some oil and butter in a pan and fry away:

Goodness in the making:

voila, serve with some lemon for the extra twist:

BTW, I managed to make some of the best Brats I ever did this week:

Say hello to Juicy, Crisp and Golden! :D

Have a nice weekend with the family! What are you preparing, food-wise?

Wienerschnitzel, oh does that bring back some memories!
I hate to say it, but I haven't had that since my grandma passed away, far too long.

There are some German restauraunts in the Poconos, maybe time for a road trip!

Looks delicious Christian hand6.gif

Cheers,
Griff

Somehow, I got thirsty for a glass of milk, dunno why ;)

Here are the restaurant pics from yesterday.
Instead of some "RESERVED!" tag on the table, they had these nice placecard:

We started with some beef carpaccio and rucola:

some appetizer for the ladies, a real nice veal roast cold cut like vitello tonnato, but no dreaded tuna sauce, but an interesting Hollandaise/gravy hybrid as a topping:

Main course was legendary Pizza with the following toppings:
veggies:

four seasons:

tuna:

and "Chef" (guess who had ittoon1.gif):

Dishes were accompanied with a great white wine from Sardegna:

Desserts were awesome, a la minute runny Chocolate cake, Strawberry parfait and a Zabaione:

and an espresso to finish this pleasant experience:

The Maitre d' was wearing a white-dial Panerai, btw.

Enjoy!

Hi Oscar, thanks for asking! :)

Well, the room was at street level (on Frankfurter Allee, google it for the whole mess:P, the lecture itself was alright. I made some welsh rarebits for dinner with a side of Canadian/US rare bit ;)

welsh rarebits are basically slices of toast with a topping of melt cheddar, beer, some hot mustard and butter. some oven time and off yer go!

If there is interest, I'll post the recipe tomorrow.

Greetings from Bonn,

Christian

That interests me... please do post the recipe.

I know it just shows how truly provincial I am, but I always thought Welsh Rarebits were rabbit...toon1.gif

heh, recipe is quite simple. ingredients are cheddar, beer, butter, some hot mustard or mustard powder, worchester sauce, salt and pepper:

Pre-heat the oven to inferno level:

Melt some butter in a skillet or non-stick pot and add a cup of beer:

chop the cheddar, add it to the skillet and stir until it melts:

add mustard, spices and worchester sauce, then spread the mix (while it's still hot) on toast slices:

Pop them in the oven for a few minutes:

Serve with a salad as side dish and garnish with some parsley if at hand and you are done!

Shoot nothing wrong with that in my mind. Anything in moderation is fine. ;) But shoot you can get sick or die even if you drink to much water to fast.

Mark, there shouldn't be any problem with serving this to children, as the alcohol should have completely evaporated over the cooking/grilling processhand6.gif
And if somebody should get caught serving beer to minors (younger than 16 years) over here, the person, be it parents or not, will face a hefty fine.
