I know Russian watches are not so popular in a lot of areas and forums but this I think is a great watch, it really is a good piece anyway...take a look for yourself...![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is a limited edition to 1967 as that was the year Vostok issued the Amphibia to the Russian forces. There is a rubber strap version but the metal is alot better I think, easy to adjust. |

Nice pictures, I like this model and might add it to my collection soon...hand6.gif Russia use to be the second biggest movement builder in the world after Switzerland. I do have a lot of respect for their timepieces and MOVT, yes, some of their designs are ugly like hell  but they are much better today IMHO. I have two Russian watches and will get more for sure. They must be the most affordable mechanical watches one can find. And even if China is getting pretty good at it, I find that most movement coming out of China are of less quality than Russian counterpart, but that is just my opinion and feeling, I might be wrong. |

I think in a Russian watch you need to get behind the thinking to admire it. The movement is proven and it works...no need to be fancy it does the job. Its a different culture and way of thinking compared to Swiss and others but I appreciate it and this watch has not let me down and keeps good time. I love Swiss watches for what they are and even though I do not favour Chinese watches Alpha have a few good pieces worth looking at and even owning. Its like having a part of different cultures...broadens the collection and as you said more affordable.Thank you for replying I didn't think anyone would after the first few days and I got the feeling Russian was a bad subject here. Do not get this mixed up with Vostok Europe and their limited editions, this is a proper Vostok. (if you can afford $200 get one of these as it is the best Russian watch I have found so far, lume is good though burns out faster than others.) I think it's more that this section doesn't have as much viewers. I rarely come here myself and I'm quite active on this forum. If you look at the Daily Wrist shots, you will see that there is a Russian watch almost every day so your not alone! There is a lot of people here with Russian watches, like I said, they are part of Horological history and I think that everybody has respect for them on 3T hand6.gif And you are right, for me, collecting watches is getting a bit of every different cultures and I think that every watch collection should have at least one Russian watch to be complete, Ideally more than one... Now, are you saying that you paid $200 for your Amphibia? If so, please PM the sellers address so I can have a look, I do have three watches incoming but I will stop by for sure!! If you like russian watches, have a look at this guy collection. He must have one of the biggest russian watch/pocket watch collection, in the world. Enjoy! |

There are a lot of Russian watches in collections here at 3T, personally I own somewhere around 15 or so, V-E's, Maktime, Moscow Classic, etc. Like Daniel stated, great mechanical watches, many inhouse movements that would cost thousands if Swiss |

NDBurley, your 1967 reminds me a lot of a variant of the Japy brand of watches sometime back. The design looks ok on your 1967. I don't have a single Russian watch and have no experience at all but I used to have a Russian SLR camera in the late '80s. |
