Hi there,

My name is Jason I'm posting here for the first time.  I am a Paneristi and own some of them but not any "historical pieces" like the 232 or 249.  I recently come across the Dievas brand I like it very much.

I am interesting in acquiring a Vintage Kamppfschwimmer and when I check out some old posts, I saw some members here purchased ones with the acrylic crystal but from the Gnomon shop it seems like the only one available now is the sapphire one.

My question is, is the acrylic version still avalable for purchase?  And how is everyone's take on the sapphire vs acrylic crystal?  Personally I like the sapphire's durability but the way the appearance of the acrylic crytal, where it stands high on the watch, is something I like too.

You can see the difference here:

Sapphire: http://gnomonwatches.com/images/DievasKampfschwimmerS3L.jpg

I would like to hear your opinion on this.  Thanks in advance. thankyou.gif

Best Regards,

Jason

Hi Jason,

Well first of all...welcome to 3T...glad to have you and please jump in and contribute wherever you can.  The WIS's here at 3T are as friendly and helpful as you will find anywhere.

Second, I agree with you...The decision between the acrylic and sapphire crystal is a personal one which you have already highlighted the decision process on...the acrylic crystal on the Kampy will really lend to and highlight the classic vintage look and design of the Kampy (I have never owned a watch with acrylic...probably not my preference due to durability, but I understand that scratches can be polished out readily with a good acrylic polish).  The sapphire will provide ultimate durability in a crystal that you will likely never scratch without "over-the-top" abuse.

(Just as a disclaimer...I don't own the Kampy, but would love to either own the Kampy or a version of that case from Dievas...I do own the Dievas Flieger and have a Vortex on order).

Regarding availability, I would say your quickest answer will come by sending a personal message (PM) to anders213 here at 3T (owner of Dievas watches).  Anders is frequently on the forums here and will likely respond to this thread if he sees it...PM'ing him will likely speed up the process a bit.

Regarding the crystal, I say buy what YOU like.  You can't go wrong in my opinion as Dievas makes very high quality time pieces and in my opinion you get more than the cost of entry if you know what I mean.

I guess it really depends if how "vintage" you want the watch to be imho. The acrylic gives it a little more vintage feel, is big as all get out and as you probably already know can be buffed out fairly easily. I have a vintage with the acrylic as it was the only option when I bought and though I do love a nice sapphire crystal, for me there have been no regrets.:D

Jason, warm welcome to 3Thand6.gif.

I have the Dievas Kampy in sapphire. Purposely I got the sapphire and not the acrylic because I was very concerned about strength and durability. Acrylic glass does not possess these qualities when compared to sapphire. For sure you know that sapphire hardly cracks BUT can be easily pock-marked while acrylic is easy to crack but hard to pock-mark.

Here's a shot of my Kampy:

In my opinion, while acrylic glass may add a few points towards making a watch "vintage" or "historical", it's the actual watch case and design itself that makes the home run.

If you want my opinion, go for sapphire. You'll never regret it.

Both are excellent choices. But have to remind everyone that the acrylic version is now discontinued. Now that makes decision a little easier. :P

Sincerely

Thank you very much guys!  I really appreciate your input.  Really I am leaning towards the sapphire as I dig deep into my closet and found a watch that came with acrylic crystal and to me I would rather save the trouble by having a sapphire.

As Anders suggested the acrylic version has now been discontinued so this will make the decision a lot more easier.  However, I now have another dilemma on which caseback to pick as it's another tough one I guess mistake.gif   I believe most people here picked the display back.

Anyhow, I should make up my mind shortly.

Thanks again!
