Has anyone had any success removing the bezel from a Sandoz Sub?  I can get the knife tool under and am able to lift the bezel some, but it just won't come off.  My goal is to replace the submariner insert with a GMT.  Thanks in advance for any help.

pics of the watch would help but if you're just replacing the insert why do you have to remove the entire bezel?

The insert sits inside the bezel.  To get the insert out, the bezel needs to be removed so the insert can be pushed out from the underside.  There are vids on Youtube showing how to do it with Rolex's, and it seems pretty simple.  I just hadn't counted on the force that's required.

that Sandoz is a far cry from a Rolex and it looks like you can remove that insert by placing a sharp edged knife under it at an angle and lift the insert out...most likely it is glued in...

Actually, it's very similar to a Rolex -- not that Sandoz was trying to be a Rolex, but side-by-side shots of them together show them to be very similar.  The fact that I can use a Rolex GMT insert in it proves the point, nor would I assume that the insert is glued in.  I've thought about a knife edge, but don't want to screw up the edge of the bezel itself.

here is a short tutorial:
I had a similar case here and as you can see I ran it under some hot water for a couple minutes to loosen the insert glue(or you could place the watch in a bowl of hot water)....I then took a sharp knife and easily slid it under the bezel insert and it came off without problem, actually quite easily...took about 5 minutes total.
....I would suggest you remove the movement/dial before doing this unless you feel that Sandoz is actually water resistant.
...I hope this helps.

Rolex style case

under hot water aprox.2 minutes

sharp knife(or xacto knife if you prefer) under insert, quite easy once the glue is soft as the insert actually lifts once the glue softens..

and finally the insert is removed without any probelms or damage to the case or bezel insert.

The main point of these forums is supposed to be to have fun with a hobby we enjoy.  You're a wet blanket -- you need to learn some tact.  I know a Sandoz isn't a Rolex, and of course I'm not installing a $400 bezel insert -- that would be idiotic.  However, the case design on a Sandoz is extremely similar to a Rolex, and, it has a very nice ETA 2824-2 movement in it.  I'm a mechanical engineer, and have designed many, many . . . many! part over the years, and I can say that the differences in the cases between Rolex and Sandoz is minimal, and looking at them purely from the materials and design details, Rolex's are way, way overpriced.  There is no magic in Rolex cases -- they're machined out of 316 stainless using the same CNC machines that most of the other watches in the world are made of.

....I can understand starting somewhere with a project and applaud you for trying but you stated a "Rolex GMT bezel" as stated above which led me to believe it was genuine...my bad.
...btw Rolex uses a 904L SS and again you are way out of line with your thinking that $100. Sandoz case is anywhere near that of a Rolex or even machined on the same model CNC machine!...as I said any replica is similar that is why they are reps or homages or whatever you want to call them and similarity is all you have...it ends there! and in this case that duck don't quack Buddy!
dog smile.gif
...I'm sorry I took time out of my day to post up a tutorial to help you out with all your wisdom as an engineer and all.mistake.gif
...now if you don't care to try my way because you fear that Sandoz will leak then here is a right way to remove a bezel...1st which is not mentioned in the link tutorial is to turn the bezel so the pip is not aligned at 12 as it will make removing the bezel easier imho....this was easily found by using the 3T search engine.ThumbsUp02.gif
