Im not only a watchgeek, im a space/aviation nerd also. So when i recently saw this beautiful watch i was jumping up and down.

snoopy1.gif

Sure, its not a Speedmaster Pro. Its not as elegant, but it is a bloody fine watch to look at. Very clean dial and i love the Arabic numbers and the whole pilot styling.

Yes, i would like to own one. But....There is always a but. Before sacrificing my saved up misc clock-money, a few questions for my friends at 3T.

* Does anyone have experience with this particular model or the brand?

* Titanium. I never owned a watch made out of this metal. I know its extremely light and strong. How scratch resistant is a titanium watch?

* Is this watch a good start to take a step into a higher class?

I dont care if i get negative feedback as long as the replies are honest.

Im not giving up on my Speedmaster or anything like that. The Moonwatch is still my holy grail and i have a separate saving for that baby.

Patrik.

I still own a similar model from FORTIS, the B-42 Marinemaster which uses a SS case material (with a white date wheel on the black dial version and a black date wheel on the lume dial version).  It continues to be one of my favorites, and I like it especially well on the excellent ss bracelet from Fortis, but it is great on several other strap combos.  It was one of the first "step up models" that I purchased when I first began my WIS journey, and the quality still does not disappoint!

I can't comment on this model in Titanium, but in Stainless Steel the build quality is spot on with outstanding bezel action and feel.  This model is strong on value IMO...lots of bang for the buck for sure.  It is the only diver that I own that does not have a screw down crown, so that takes some getting used to...but have never had any water intrusion issues with either of the models I have.

I like the SS model enough to have both the black dial and lume dial versions.  I have nothing bad to say about them...very solid and well built, and at least when I picked up mine could be had at a fairly decent discount. Maybe someone with experience with the Ti version can provide some input, but the ss models are sweet IMO. (I also like the bezel teeth shown on the one you posted and mine shown here...the new B-42 Marinemasters have an exaggerated bezel that I don't much care for).

You don´t know what is long amigo…
I bought a watch and it took one week to cross Norway: Who knows why!!!
After this painful waiting, I had a phone call from the job...
The day I should receive my very new watch, I suddenly had to travel out offshore at 5am.
So I missed it by 4 hours.mistake.gif
Then 2 weeks was the new waiting.
14 days after, when home was calling, my helicopter was canceled because of lightnings and I had to wait one more day at sea!!!
Then the new plane flights to home was changed and instead of a fast ride, I got only a great tour around all the country to finally arrive yesterday night: Using all my day in f@ck´n Oslo airport...
When I arrived home, I opened the box tried the watch and said to my girlfriend that I was in love...
Her answer was with a smile "Maybe I should leave?".
So I had to leave the watch again for a whilesubtlelaugh.gif
You don´t know what is waiting...

Damn! With all that flying and spending a day at the airport. I would gladly wait for the watch.  Airports and flying is like Disneyland for me. Aviation is the only thing that i rate higher then watches.

Good choice, Patrik. I don't have direct experience with Fortis but I have a couple of buddies that own them and they are ok. I heard they are accurate. Enjoy it in good health for a long time.

Well Patrik, flying is cool but I take 2 planes and a Sikorsky S92 for each travel to work: It´s ok but sometimes traveling for 10 hours mostly because I have to wait at the airports is boring.
Specially at airports like Oslo: Where the shopping is limited...

Traveling for so long will make anyone bored, even me. I traveled for 2 days straight on a train. A deck of cards only lasts for a few hours. Only good thing was that i could walk around a bit and stretch my legs.

Not in the US, not in France, not in Mexico, not in Scandinavia…
I know...
In Russia: It´s a must.
Now, back to the watch: How does it feel after few days with the Fortis?

Here is a short but honest review:

I used the watch everyday since Friday afternoon. Im walking around with this smooth cloth in my pocket so i can wipe the crystal down in case i get dust or fingerprints on it.

It sits very nice on my wrist. No uncomfortable feelings. (Except for my imagined fear of, "i might banging the watch against something hard every time i move" -syndrome).

I have twisted and turned the watch, looked at it from every angle. Enjoyed every second so far. Only had on little bit of let down. That is the lume, im a bit spoiled after my Armidas, Seikos and the Luminox. But i know this isn't a divers watch, so im fine with it now.

I also noticed a cool thing. When there is no reflections on the crystal, it looks like it fell out and the dial is unprotected.

Oh and before i forget. 21mm between the lugs. Who´s bright idea was that? That leaves me very limited when selecting straps. However i can opt for original straps in the future or squeeze in a 22mm nato.

In reality i have no complaints whatsoever. The dial is easy to read and so far the mov seems to be very accurate. The bezel fits perfectly, no play at all in any direction.

The bright orange secondhand is hypnotizing to follow around. Great that they did not just paint it white and been happy with it.

If i stack all the hands together, the luminous paint and the bright orange paint line up exactly edge to edge. That was a holy sh**t moment! (On my Luminox they did not even bother painting the sides black on the hands).

I wont be opening up the watch to view the movement, dont want to mess anything up by accident. I just have to google for a picture or video of it.

That raises a question that i should of probably asked before buying the watch. The Automatic Swiss movement 2836-2, 11 1/2 '''. Is that what is known as a "in-house" movement?

Good to hear Patrik!
The 2836-2 is a movement made by ETA which is owned by Swatch-Group as well as many watch brands: Breguet, Harry Winston, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Jaquet Droz, Léon Hatot, Omega, Longines, Rado, Union Glashütte, Tissot, Balmain, Certina, Mido, Hamilton, Calvin Klein watches + jewelry, Swatch, Flik Flak.
The 2836-2 is the most used day-date movement in mid-range watches and is very sturdy.
Here´s a quick review I picked for you: The ETA 2836-2 movement is essentially the basic ETA 2824 with the addition of day-date functionality. The day change is also quicker on the Eta 2836-2, it’s considered instantaneous vs pseudo-instantaneous. The movement itself is also slightly higher due to the date wheel, than the 2824. Other than that they are very similar movements.

Interesting to hear that the lug width on this one is 21mm Patrik.

My B-42 Marinemasters are both a standard 20mm at the lugs, so it is sort of a head-scratcher as to why Fortis chose 21mm for the model that you picked up...I would have expected the case dimensions to be the same across the lineup.

But, like you said, you can try out some 22mm (or 20mm) straps to see what works best.

I can confirm that the day-date change is instantaneous. At 23:55 i hear a click and it has changed over.

I think im going to measure it once again just to be sure. Third time the charm or however the saying goes.

I found this website were they make these cool Velcro straps for watches, nasa styled. Was thinking of ordering one for this watch but without text, just serialno.

Well they only sell/make them in the common widths, even though they are tailored made for your wrist. So its bothering me a bit to have 21mm between the lugs.

Guess i just have to wait until i get my hands on a Speedmaster. LOL!

No worries...yes, definitely make another measurement, especially if you're going to order a custom strap for it.

On the velcro strap front, I can definitely recommend Carl at Gas Gas Bones for your velcro strap needs (he's got several different options that fit the bill very nicely, and the quality is outstanding IMO).
