Guys & Gals, as you have known that I've bought a TRIAS Flieger Automatic watch recently. See pics below: I can't figure out what do all those numbers start for!?!? ![]() Also I would like to find out what do you all make out of that red indicator hand??? Ok the hour hand rotates one cycle around the dial every 24 hours just like the Glycine Airman(ask Ken if you don't know about the GLYCINE! ![]() ![]() So any experts out there knows how to read this watch(as in its numbers besides the hours markings), please enlighten me! Oh the bezel is bi-directional and it has an inner ring or reading 10-95(another clueless numbers to me!!! ![]()

Darn I finally make it out with those hands!!! I made a mistake! The first thing is that this is NOT a true 24h dial watch!!! The hour hand and minute hand actually work NORMALLY!!! If you see the pic, the time is actually 6:09 am/pm. So the question is whether it is AM or PM??? That where the red hand comes into the picture! As per pic, the red hand is pointing to "18" and that indicates that it is 6:09 PM or 1809 hrs!!! I am a little disappointed with this finding, as I was expected a true 24h dial watch when I made my purchase for this despite unknowing and disliking the complicated busy dials. It's a let down cos TRIAS could have just switch the red hand with the hour hand, and do away with the red hand. This will makes it become a true 24h dial watch!!! For this reason, I might send it for a mod if the cost is not too high. :) PS: the rest of the numbers on the dial are still clueless to me at the moment!:? A 12hr. watch with a sub 24hr. hand. Take away all of the other stuff on the dial and you basically have this Elysee model. (I'm gonna bet that the other stuff on the dial is a slide rule function of some sort.) ![]() Last edited on Wed Jan 4th, 2006 10:37 pm by mcwright |

Hi Jacky, I've seen a few web sites that explain the functioning of the circular slide rules employed on the Trias, Breitling Navitimer, etc. Here are a couple of the best: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliderule http://www.lesmala.net/jean-michel/navitimer/index2.htm

As an IFR Rated licensed private pilot:shock:, let me simply say it appears to be a slightly modifed E6-B Flight Computer which computes time, speed, distance, altitude, true airspeed, and density altitude problems as well as conversions of statute and nautical miles. http://www.flightstore.co.uk/asa_e6_b_flight_computer.pilot.supplies/use.id.5.item_id.1000.dept.115.dept_l2.117.dept_l3.0/ It would seem to me that the red hand would be use for monitoring fuel, although I am not positive. Most General Aircraft (with which I have experience) carry about 4hour (+) of fuel. Last edited on Thu Jan 5th, 2006 08:34 am by KenC |

Ken, Too bad the REd hand is really a day/night(12h/24h) indicator. Anyway I don't expect TRIAS to be as sophistcated as Breitling's Navitimer. :P But I was really looking forward for a 24h dial watch and it turned that it is not! :( Tom, thanks for the link and I'll spend some time reading and absorbing it. But I'll have to find time later.:P

How can it be a day/night indicator if it, as previously staed, completes the cycle in 4 hours!????? watchboy wrote: Ken, Too bad the REd hand is really a day/night(12h/24h) indicator.
