I have been lurking on this site for a year or more and just decided to join. I also read or get the "shiney" watch publications at the news stand. I have noticed very little information about the quality of the mechanical movements from non-swiss companies. I am even beginning to question the "swiss-made" engines. I would hope there could be some discussion of the quality and reliablity of the actual movement by name and identifying number rather than by watch manufacturer. For example: AdeeKay LeBauches movements. Are there one or many. Where are they made and what is the quality. Also what about the Android ad288

Welcome to 3T! I am confused by your query. You want info on movements free from branding, right? However you specifically ask about two brands. You seem to be identifying the watches by model #, so I would guess you have the information regarding the movements in each...face4.gif

As for a Swiss Made goes the there have been lots of attempts at re legislating the standards, and they will continue to modify the standards. The "Made in Taiwan" movements are a total mystery to me. To tell you the truth I have never taken one apart and cared enough to reassemble it. The true test of a movement is not only how it keeps time in the short term, but also the reliability and serviceability. Which is where the root of your question sprouts, as for now the branded movements are of the most part disposable and very hard to do any real repairs on. There are some real quality Chinese movements out there, but this is like most hobby's it has its it's own groups and subgroups. They specialize in all branches of the business, but unfortunately this is not one of mine.

I did not mean free from branding. I am trying to get handle on the level of quality by brand, country etc. I was hoping for a web site.. sort of the consumers reports of movements. Thanks for the info so far. How do you know if somwthing comes from Taiwan or the mainland?

It was a joke, if you have never been to Taiwan very little that is not tech related is made there. Most things are just branded there kind of like the Made in Hong Kong label. I have spend to much time in the far east apparently, and will stop with the inside jokes. You know you have been to long some where when half cooked embryonic chicken eggs is considered a bar condiment, and then you see it on the travel channel on some bazaar foods show.
