My son bought me a racing package that allowed me to drive a real stock car at speeds up to 160mph. I drove on the Texas Motor Speedway track. Below is a picture of the car I drove. It was quite a thrill for an old dude like me.![]() Last edited on Sun Jun 8th, 2008 08:46 pm by Willieboy |

oagaspar wrote: how fast did you get that bad boy up too Bill!yahoo.gif It's hard to say for sure. There are no speedometers in these cars and we were instructed to keep our eyes on the track at all times. There were eight cars on the track at the same time...each with a driver and instructor. The engines are the real deal, but they've been set up so the top speed cannot exceed 160mph. Despite that, they are very powerful. I know that other drivers reached that speed, but I'm sure I did not. I topped out somewhere between 150-160mph I think. I was a little dissapointed in myself for not having redlined the car but I drove as fast as I thought prudent given an unfamiliar car and track. One of my issues was that the track at the Texas Motor Speedway is not a nice symetrical oval. Therefore, I was somewhat conservative in the turns, not knowing what was around the corner, e.g., another turn or a straightaway. With familiarity, I could have been more aggressive in the turns and thereby carried a bigger head of steam into the straightaways. Also, the cars don't drive like the family car. There is no power steering and there is a lot of rubber on the ground. Therefore, steeering was a little difficult and I just did not feel comfortable going faster. I guess old age is catching up with me and my cajones aren't as large as they once may have been. Last edited on Sun Jun 8th, 2008 06:22 pm by Willieboy |

Hey Pax, My son is the greatest. A really good guy and friend. We did get about an hours classroom instruction and there was an instructor in each car. I guess the big thing that was missing was helmet-to-helmet commmunications between driver and instructor. Drivers had to rely on hand signals at 160 mph. Bill

When you got out of the car, did you remember to mention that you were driving the VALVOLINE CHEVY MONTE CARLO while drinking a coke with your Sprint cap on. :D :D :D Looks awesome! Did you get any calls from Hendrick or Roush motorsports! woohoo.gif Last edited on Mon Jun 9th, 2008 04:24 am by mcwright |

That's so cool. You should check out the Andretti Racing School. I drove an open wheeled car on the same track a couple of years ago and it was such a rush. I got to do 4 sessions for a total of like 16 laps. I got the car up to 170 MPH. It was one of the most fun things I've done.
