I've been using the avatar (at left) for so long a lot of you probably think that's me. Well, it's not. The avatar is my dad - - cropped from this family photo in the back yard of our home in Hudson, Wisconsin during the summer of 1955. That handsome stud at lower right is yours truly. My dad passed away in 1968 from a brain tumor soon after I finished active duty in the Marine Corps, so his photo is just a reminder of my dad in those carefree summer days of the '50s.![]()

So sorry you lost your Dad so soon. Your father has a kind face... I venture to guess that he was fun to be around. I wish I was raising my 5 year-old in the 50's, when the American way of life was a revered and respected culture and not a punch-line for "new thinking" socialists. Thanks for your service. —JD (I apologize if this post is too political in nature)

Tom, thank you for serving. My dad was a Marine--Semper Fi!--a way of life for us. If I may, you were one cute dude........ happy1.gif Too political? Not at all. You've spoken my thoughts about our once-terrific country when "political correctness" didn't reign supreme and we were a respected and admired nation. Thanks one and all. I must say that I now regret mentioning the USMC, which had nothing to do with this post other than as purely a side reference due to the timing of events. Please ignore the reference. ![]()

Please ignore the reference. Tom it may not be near as important as your Dad. My birth dad has been long gone too. He died before I was born. And I was later adopted. I now have my Adopted dad still hanging on and my kid brothers dad who is a very close friend too. So understand in a big way. But that said this Swabby Navy Vet also appriciates the Jar Head in ya too. :D

Yes. Just kidding. My regret is that, as a result, all responders were drawn to that fact, not the point I was trying to make (which, of course, is my lifetime of great looks! I sure wish my waistline looked like that these days.). Last edited on Sat Jan 24th, 2009 07:25 pm by pacifichrono |
