I got a question:

I see some nice Panerai type Leather straps with pre-v buckles etc.... or any leather straps and some have spring bar buckles some have screw buckles and some have sewn in buckles

I dont understand the Sewn in buckles, it seems that when you spend 300 on a strap you would want to be able to change the buckle to PVD or Brushed etc.... No?

It seems that your locked in with the Sewn in type.

On The Ted SU strap the keeper has an extra type slot into it, What is that for, Looks or does it hold the Tongue of the strap?

Thanks men

Hiya huck

IMHO screw-in buckles are better value - they do allow you to change straps and they multiply the use and application of any strap set up that way. I have a few aftermarket leather straps which look the biz on brushed, polished or pvd pre-v style buckles, so I  regularly change out the straps, the buckles, and put them on various watches with the same lug-width.

I have some of their watches, but I have never bought an authentic Panerai leather strap (or a ruber one, for that matter...). But then again, I have seen authentic new Panerai straps with both sewn-in and screwed-in buckles which have apparently come like that from the factory, at my AD.  To the best of my knowledge, sewn-in buckles were originally for military issue watches - but hey, if I am wrong, someone with greater knowledge please chime in!

Maybe it is just the a security issue (sewn-in can't fall out), maybe it is a cost issue (though not much difference from the AD on the two styles(!).

On my straps, I have never had a screw-in buckle come loose, let alone fall out. My only caution is that, for me, a bent (or more correctly, curved) pre-v buckle is more comfortable than the unbent ones (curved in the sense that the end part of the buckle is bent down towards the strap it would be worn with) cos some of those puppies are almost as wide as the watch, and can catch passing planes!

Have a great weekend huck - IanM hand6.gif

Just took an Ibuprofen 800 for my back, party time coyote2.gif

I like the idea of changing straps with buckles myself too.

Cheers

the sewn in buckle is as Ian says for security on the TedSu straps as these straps are made specifically for Panerai's...wider at the lugs for a tight fit and as far as the loop you are looking at on that one particular strap.....it has no function....just remember Ted's straps are made from vintage ammo pouches and that what you see was a loop on ther pouch and used as an aesthetic piece on the strapyahoo.gif

Ted makes by far the nicest Vintage strap...and it is handmade and takes time to break in,once it is it forms to your wrist and is very comfortable and just looks better with wear!...all leather no filler and built to last a lifetime imhoyahoo.gif
