I won't get into it too much, but you aren't paying just for the leather. You are paying for skilled people like Ted or others to spend time, using their expertise. Having purchased quite a few expensive leather straps, it is my opinion that some are overpriced, but others are a great value, even at those prices and above. I think guys like Ted, Micah, Delaurian, and others of course are all worth the money you pay. There are other sellers that produce more machine made straps at those prices which may not reflect as good a value imo. When you talk about re-using vintage leather, you have to consider the time and effort made to find and procure this leather. It will usually come in the form of some other finished product. The strap maker will have to tear that down which takes time. Then they will have to carefully cut your strap out of that odd shaped material, work it and refinish it. Anyway, my opinion is that paying a lot for a leather strap makes sense in some circumstances and not in others, but please don't make blanket statements based solely on price because there are some great guys pouring their hearts out into these straps.
