I have read great references on the Seiko Monsters. I am thinking about getting one and, in one on-line retailer, I have the following choices

1) Black Monster w/bracelet. Special price US$ 169.

2) Black Monster w/bracelet, no papers or box. Price US$ 159

3) Orange Monster w/rubber, no papers or box. Price US$ 145

I am not too much into rubber, but I have a Watchadoo 20mm on the way for another watch, which I could use on the monster as well. The Seiko bracelet does look nice in the pics, though...

I am pretty bad for these kind of decisions, so opinions would be most helpful.

ive had a black monster on bracelet for a while, so i ordered an Orange monster with no box and papers and rubber strap a few weeks ago.  service was great, with quick shipping to me.

i say go for the black monser w/bracelet with no box and papers.  then add an orange one later and just swap the bracelet as needed.  :)

I agree. Also, I recommend the 22mm watchadoo on which you modify the end link by filing 1 mm on each side. I have both, black and orange and I put the 22mm watchadoo on the OM and love it. You can't go wrong with the Seiko Monster IMHO. Good choice hand6.gif

Orange... but that is my stock answer to almost any question.;) No need to worry about papers with a Monster. Get the cheaper of the two on the bracelet and then get the opposite on the strap. Then you have it all.:dude:

Great help, thanks.

I came across as well with the "Seiko 5 XXL Automatic Dive Watch". Any opinions on that one ?

Tough looking watch BUT, you have to be aware that the black bezel/crown guard is made of plastic :(, if you have no problem with that (i do) go for it, it's a very nice looking watch with a solid bracelet. Seiko 5 often get cheap bracelets, not this one.  I would also recommend the SAWTOOTH, if you don't mind a quartz watch, well, nothing is perfect in this world.   I wish they had the SAWTOOTH case with the auto movement but...Ha yea  :D, the 600m Tuna Can 6159-7010 or SBDX005 is close enough but, good luck to find one in good condition and $$$$... I hope I'm not drooling on your desk subtlelaugh.gifsubtlelaugh.gifsubtlelaugh.gifsubtlelaugh.gif

I believe the plastic part was not a turn-on for me even before your posting. Also, I think maybe the Monster is more of a classic, and a bit more easy to wear because of the smaller size.

Do not like choices...crap.gif

Again, the Monsters are great buy at very affordable price i got my OM on steel bracelet for $155 subtlelaugh.gif and my BM, also on steel for $165 subtlelaugh.gif shipped both from Pokemonyu on eBayYou should stick with your first idea, i truly believe that the Seiko Monsters are still the best buy for the money out there for a real certified Auto diver's watch IMOH.  And I can guaranty you that once you own one, you won't be able to live a normal life without the other color (forget about the limited edition, blue, red, yello...) yourock.gif

i have a number of watches of all different prices and the Orange Monster on the metal strap is one of my faves - what's not to love?

-sapphire crystal
-good size
-very rugged
-automatic
-60 click uni-bezel
-& some of the nicest lume i've seen

I honestly feel like this is a mis-priced watch...... don't tell Seiko

... do the Orange Monster, then go for a black at a later date... That's what I was about to do, but you didn't post the seller of the black monster subtlelaugh.gif

you'll be happy with whatever you chose.

Finally, I'm not too big on the watchadoo... if you go for one, then grab the metal strap and then go to sales forum here - someone is selling 4 rubber straps, grab one of those.

Are you sure you are talking about the Orange Monster Nizzler???  The OM and BM have a Hardlex crystal, which is Seiko hardened mineral crystal and a 120 clicks bezel. You're right about the rest :P

No offense intended!

OK guys. By looking at the number of replies (at some stage I just could not keep up...), I realized the Monster is a winner and a must have.

So I ordered one, bracelet and... Orange.

I have two black face divers already (plus an Invicta 8926 that most likely will go...), a black face Gevril Stadium and a black carbon face Carrera chronograph, so I figured out that some orange would enlighten my watch box...

Got it from a reputable (hope so...) dealer in "the bay", at a pretty good price delivered to Chile.

Thanks for all the good, fast and passionate advise.

Ral, you can't go wrong getting either the OM or BM first. I just prefer the BM and that's why I got it ahead of my OM....by about 3 years. Stick to the bracelet. They are well made. Here is my BM from my previous post on 3T. My OM is back at home.....2 time zones away.

After you get used to the BM/OM, check out the Frankenmonsters. While their collars/neck flanges are made of resin, they are not easy to break and these things speak volumes for the watch's looks. Here are 2 of mine that I previously posted on 3T.

Lastly, when you're done digesting all of these sturdy watches, check this out (I also posted in 3T previously). It's from the same Seiko line. I can't recall any nickname for it but I just call it the White Monster. I prefer this over the OM and BM because it's just more elegant and not very common.;)

Since we are on the subject, after you get the one above, check out its darker and almost stealth-clothed brothersubtlelaugh.gif

Hope these photos help you.:)

Please note that when the hour hand, minute hand and second hand exactly align at say 12:00 :6:30, 2:10 or 9:50, the overlap will resemble a rocket or spaceship. Depending on the alignment, the rocket is either taking off, cruising to its assigned altitude or preparing to land.

The hour hand is an arrow head, the minute hand is a sword and the 12 index is a shield. Nothing in my collection beats the lume on these Seikos.
