I just got back from the Omega AD to check out the new Ploprof for myself.  After reading IanM's report on this beast, I wanted to see it in the flesh.  This one is on orange rubber - a bit loud IMHO.  Nevertheless, I was most impressed:

This watch is really and truly a cult object.  As I was handling it in the store, some other clients couldn't resist coming over to me and talk about the watch.  I like it a lot more in the flesh than in the pics.  The dealer enquired from the distributor, and there is one available on mesh!  Now that got my juices flowing......

I just love the Omega mesh, and on this watch it makes a statement about the watch's pedigree and history.  The price quoted is only about $300 more for the mesh model, so great value IMHO.
These watches sell quicker than hot cakes, and demand far outstrips supply.  I see that there are a few available on the Bay, but none with the mesh.  The price quoted me was remarkably good compared to the listings on the Bay.
So there you have it.  This morning I was minding my own business, with no intention of adding anything to my grail list.  And then this happened.
What to do?
Hang in there for a sequel to this fable........subtlelaugh.gif

Graham, I thought you said you were "done" with watches for a whiletoon1.gif.

I always loved the PloProf particularly the brand pedigree and those absolutely deadly plongeur hands. Getting it in mesh makes you one of the really lucky few.

So, where's Part 2 of the fable, amigosubtlelaugh.gif?

Hiya Graham - thanks for the intial episode in the saga! Hmmmmmm. Wonder which way you will go.......... :). I am too biased to comment much here - you know where my loyalties lie...

However I do agree that the orange is a bit over the top if my screen resolution shows the right "Doxa orange". Lets put it like this - if you were on top of Signal Mountain and waved - I bet I could see you all the way from the West coast of Australia with that one on.

Good sir - if the mesh version has no rubber strap, then the differential is closer to $500 to $600 or thereabouts. I am currently inquiring about the deployant mesh on its own, but the cost of the 1200 plus the mesh is out of reach to me before Christmas. And hey - if your AD wants to sell a deployant new style mesh for $300 - please let me know - I am in for at least one! I can add the watch head later... ;)

The 1200 ploprof is the newest version of an icon, Graham. I would not wear the old one because of its rarity, but I would give the new one a workout, and the gold anodised accents are a pretty stylish twist. Oh bugger...  there I go again... mistake.gif

In your own time, good sir. Nothing beats a good fable, and as long as all you have done is add it to your grail list, I will feel no jealousy, for I am afflicted as well...

how did I know you would chime in, Ian?subtlelaugh.gif
Well, let's see what pans out.
The $300 difference in pricing would not suggest that you can buy the mesh for that.  It is just the way the deal was structured.  I know they are a lot more if bought separately.
I'm smitten..................................I think.....................mistake.gif

I gotta say, I don't really see what the hubub is all about. I'll probably have to see it in person and try it on. I'm not a fan of the minute hand. I originally didn't like the PO hands at first either. I love mine now. :) I would agree it is an icon that stands out like no other watch. Good luck with your bug that has apparently bitten you pretty good.

Sooooo, I just tried one of these on and I gotta say, pretty impressive! It's a very very hefty watch and super cool. I tried it on on mesh. Utterly blown away with how comfy the mesh it. Ok, I take back my last statement, this watch is awesome!
