Had been looking at posts about Trias and started to investigate. Started looking at http://www.longislandwatch.com/, Ken said that Marc would be the goto Trais store. Found a case that I have always liked and found a case that I love in the WWII Unitas #30317 price $219. Mag. the pic and I was shocked, the defect in the fit of the back on to the case body stood out. There is only one set of tools that made that case and it is used by Zeno. The Zeno is the Nostalgia handwind price $730. The case has to be looked at from the front and at an angle to see the out of round fit. The overhang of the back is more at the top and bottom of the case by app. 1.5 mm total (over hang of top + bottom). If you have a chance look at the writing on the case backs. I have long believed that the Swiss Made Trias watches were made by the highly respected ZENO-Watch BASEL. (I think it was CHEEPS that turned me on to this possibility) It is nearly 100 year old Swiss company (started about 1920) and is one of the last independent Swiss watch manufacturers in business. On the TRIAS website, this model is referred to as the "Backgammon". That said, it would seem to me, that the "oddity" of the case fit, is more of a signature than a defect. Strangely, I just ordered this watch from Marc yesterday! Again, I think that for $200 +/-, Trias Swiss Made watches are one of the biggest "Bangs for the Buck" around! :cool: |

That is one of my favorites. :cool: Zeno-Basel timepieces are terrific; remember when Tim Temple used to have them over at that other place--brought in by Judah, I believe. Ken, Cheeps, whoever's probably right about the Trias connection--another great brand name. |

The funny thing is I had never herd of Trias before Michael did the relume and I went to the Long Island looking for the Corvette that is made by the Oceanaut manufacturer. I still know nothing about them at all but one day I may. The Zeno case manufacturer did not build the case deliberately like that. That I do know. |

That is funny. That is the other zeno case. When did you buy the watch Scamp? So they made the Backgammon in both cases. Did the Backgammon every get released in the Unitas 6498 (second hand at 6 like my pics) or did they just use the case? Last edited on Sun May 28th, 2006 10:34 am by e.avery |

I believe that the TRIAS labled "Backgammon" and the Island Watch labled "WWII Style" are the same model! WWII was coined by 'yours truly' on this watch before Trias called it the 'Backgammon'. The name just stuck, so I stuck with it. I've seen a few 6498 models. They are few and far between though. When they're available, I snatch them up. Marc |
