Why would having an office in Switzerland mean anything, besides the fact of being able to afford it?

I guess Invicta sell a s&#tload of watches every year, so do not think they would have an issue with the required money.

Welcome Valjoux but as Skip said...this thread has not been posted in since November 2005 and much can change in 5 years....since then we have learned that Invicta has no Swiss factory and that the address they used back then and probably now is used by many HongKong manufacturers and brands to get around the whole "Swiss Made" rulings...an address and telephone # is all that is needed....having a Swiss address lends some prestige to a brand name just like being located in Geneve....the heart of the Swiss watch community is the creme' de la creme of Swiss Watch addresses....

..another interesting note that came to me recently is that the "Swiss Made" production rule/lable about final assembly and inspection must be made in Switzerland only pretains to the 1st 200 pieces in any model run...after that they can be built/assembled anywhere in the world....so if a brand like Invicta who mass produces watches your chance of getting a watch that says "Swiss Made" on the dial is more than likely a watch made entirely in China with a Swiss movement.coyote2.gif

Uh oh! Now this is really scary.mistake.gif So I guess we need to still ask the questions: 1) where is it made and 2) where is it shipped from --- if ever we want to be sure about certain brands' output. This is vry important info, O. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about any of the true Swiss brands and higher end watch companies we all know of that have actual facilities in Switzerland but I know I am staying from these companies who are suspect and mass produce watches like Invicta which brought this subject all up to begin with who have so called Swiss Made Limited Editions anywhere from production numbers up to 5000 .

..when I was told this about the 1st 200 only being held to the high Swiss standards my 1st reactions was No way!....and after a lengthy discussion with an AD and a Swiss watch co. rep I was convinced!

I have a greater respect for the true Swiss companies like Tissot who are able to keep their pricing down and even many of our boutique brands that produce in small quantities like Kazimon,Dievas Benarus,Bali Ha'i and DWATCH who do produce some Swiss Made models and Made in Germany watches but in low production #'s that have to be cased and final inspection in Switzerland...hand6.gif

WOW, this is really interesting info...so if I read this right a company can have 200 watches made in Switzerland and the rest made in China and they can claim that they are all Swiss made....very interesting
