I couldn't resist. Had to have this if for no other reason than the packaging. This is an S. Coifman Romano with a 44mm case and a Sellita SW200 26-jewel automatic movement. For those who don't know how these are presented, S. Coifman uses a box which is also a book. Open the book and there are pages introducing the new owner to the company. When the last page is turned, there is the watch! No, this is a post Invicta model so it's not an ultra limited edition of between 2 and 12 or fourteen, as they once did. Before Invicta, they would go out and buy vintage movements and design watches around them. The number of units in the edition depended on how many movements they had of that given type, making each watch extremely rare and a hand made work of art. I don't know if they still do that but, this watch is very high quality and I love it! Clyde Attachment: S Coifman.jpg (Downloaded 86 times) |

Congrats on a Awesome watch Foster...very cool vintage stylings hand6.gif I would like to see where you found the info on pre-Invicta Coifmans?:? ....it has always been known that Invicta created the fabled S.Coifman and was at one time considered Invictas Swiss flagship run by Eyals sister...I own a few 1st generation models but have never seen one prior to Invicta creating the brand or as they say ressurected the brand about 5-6 yrs. ago yourock.gif |

I first saw S. Coifman when Tim Temple was with Shop NBC, before Invicta bought S. Coifman. Occasionally one of the vendors and I must admit that I can't remember who would get an occasional S. Coifman or two. These were always very limited edition of only a few and were vintage movements that were NOS surplus from other watch companies. S. Coifman would then design a watch around that movement and the size of the edition was dependant on how many movements they had. I don't know if they produced anything else at that time. As I recall they were rather expensive and well over my budget, so I never got one. They were truly hand crafted works of art, as was the packaging which they still use. I remember hearing that Invicta had bought the brand and wondered what would become of them. I am happy to report that the quality is still there. This is beautifully crafted for a mass produced product. Once again, Tim could fill in the blanks in my memory. That was Judah Perlstein Pres. of Sterling Time who is the distributor of Invicta/S.Coifman that used to appear with Tim...I speak with Tim weekly and the only info is that it is a fabled company created by Invicta...remember TV shopping shows are geared for the non-WIS who will buy into most any story:D ...regardless it is a great watch although I haven't seen any of the newer generations but they were made by Antigone S.A in Switzerland who make some very high end brands...you will find that most of the early few hundred members here at 3T came here from the old Invicta forum at WUS along with the entire moderating staff and have been following the Invicta brand from good to bad and everything in between since 2000 ....Congrats again...it is a sweet watch yourock.gif cfoster wrote: I first saw S. I know that I first saw S. Coifman before 2005 when Invicta supposedly "created" the company. I also think it might go as far back as Value-Vision days and the vendor may have been Jeff Hess??? But, I don't remember. When you talk to Tim, please ask as "inquiring minds want to know", Not to mention my cob web infested brain. I remember when Jeff Hess used to be on with Tim and that goes back about a dozen years or so....I will ask Tim and e-mail Jeff to see what they know exactly but in researching Coifman for years prior to Invicta shows absolutely notta ....including a book I have of all Swiss watchmakers dating back to the 1800's ,with the exception of what RandyG found and he is a well informed WIS thta has been the most concise info afaikface4.gif |

Thanks for doing that. It is possible that I am not remembering correctly but it will be interesting to find out the who, what and where of S. Coifman from people who were closer to it than I was as a viewer.
