Ultimate Beaters. Congrats Tony. On the subject of how tough a G-Shock can be, I have a good story for you. Back in the early 90s when I was stationed in Germany, a group of us were standing around wasting time in the motor pool discussing various things. One of those was the G-Shocks reputation for toughness and some urban legends related to that. During the course of this conversation we decided to put it to the test and started doing stupid stuff like dropping from different heights and whatever else we could come up with that seemed realistic to being used roughly. Finally we came up with the bright idea of running it over with an APC. Somehow we justified this as being realistic due to the fact that we were an Armor Battalion. Anyway, it lived. It was pretty chewed up and the band was completely unserviceable, but it was keeping time still. After being surprised by the fact that it was still running, we decided to try it under a tank. That was a mistake. The G-Shock can NOT handle an M1 Abrams running over it. So there you go Tony. You know a G-Shock can handle being run over by an APC and not a tank subtlelaugh.gif.

Nor do I! But now I want an APC... subtlelaugh.gif

Gs have quite a following, don't they. Some are collectibles, too. But without wanting to start a war - are they more readable, more fun, easiure to service, better, tougher, better value or more functional than something like, say, a Suunto or similar LCD watches? I know they are good timekeepers, and I am certainly not against quartzies - I have a few of those. I can see that most Gs look like tough little buggers. But could y'all let me know what you think makes certain G-Shock models collectible? Is it just the limited numbers of special editions?

No thread hijack intended - cos brother Tony has picked up some nice fun ones, there! Congratulations!

Cheers all - IanM hand6.gif

lol I wasn't poking fun, I've got an old casio duro 200m that I can't break for the life of me... I figure I shouldn't replace it with a G until it's finally kicked the bucket!

Congrats! those both look fun!
