Two days ago I posted this in the daily WRUW forum:

Not one of you noticed that this was indeed the ORIGINAL Plop, not the recently acquired 1200 re-edition!
After my acquisition of the most impressive 1200, I became intrigued with the history and heritage of this watch.  At the same time I heard about someone selling an original 600 here locally, but the post-purchase -syndrome kicked in after having spent some of my kids' inheritance on the 1200, and I ignored it...............for a while.subtlelaugh.gif
About two weeks ago I received an Omega publication in the mail, courtesy Bigrustypig. This mag ran a stunning article on the Plop and its heritage.  Needless to say, the desire to own the original was rekindled (thanks, Jeff!mistake.gif), and I followed up on the ad.

After quite a bit of negotiations, I struck a deal and the 600 came home.
This particular watch was completely refurbished by Omega last year.  The seller bought it new in 1974.  I got the original invoice and booklets with the watch, as well as the bill for the refurbishing.  The watch looks good as new, and runs at +1 on the timing machine, with very healthy vital signs of the movement.  I'm ecstatic with this piece of horological history.

There are many rferences to this watch on the net, as well as comparative notes on the old and new, so I won't be doing a review.  Suffice it to say that both have awesome wrist presence!

I'll post a bunch of pics below to show them side by side, as well as the magazine and brochures.
Enjoy!

Sorry if the many pictures bored you....

Congrats! Yes, I've noticed it in the daily post:cool:
I thought that you might have it since a while: It show at once that it's the old model... Great that you have the 2 to compare! Do you notice some positives improvements in the new model or is there anything that you regret that Omega didn't follow up after the 70's model?
There's holes in the lugs of the old one but not in the new: Is it spring-bars?
I thought that on the new model, the pins of the spring-bars could be a weak point as they can't come deep in the lugs, due to the absence of holes.
In my opinion, it should have been screw-bars: What do you think Graham? Also, describe the bezel-click feeling difference please;)

I'll admit I missed it... Graham you have been bitten y the Ploprof bug apparently and having Jeff there to push you over the edge can't hurt. What a fantastic piece of the past and great compliment to your modern version. I am in the throes of serious watch envy and find myself wanting to sneak into your home and make off with these beauties. However by the time I get myself to your part of the world I will have spent enough on travel to purchase one myself.:D Congratulation and enjoy.

Thanks!
There are indeed lug holes on the 600.
The 1200 don't have them, but have very thick and strong springbars.  Not easy to remove, I might add!
The operation of the bezel is fantastic on both watches.  The clicks are dampened on both, and very positive.  Of course the locking system is foolproof.  The button on the 600 is plastic, and on the 1200 it is anodized aluminum.
The 600 can only be opened from the bezel side, while the 1200 has a conventional caseback.
I'll give more feedback if and when I have more to remark on.

Congrats on both. They don't come any more "tool" than that; as far as I'm concerned. Very cool!

The button locks the bezel in place.

>>>

Nope, but thats because I have been "underground" with some heavy matters for a coupla days and didn't check in!

Both are fab Graham. I appreciate the history of the original, but the new one has me all a-flutter and thats the one for me. Comparative values are similar these days, and I cant think of a better way to "tool up".

Love them both,Graham - and I hope that they each bring you equal amounts of joy!

Congratulations on the "almost twns"!

Hahaha!!! What else can I say? You guys asked all the right questions and made the exact educated comments and really, BRAVO, Graham. I never thought you'd be able to convince the owner to part with it (you didn't use the 1911A1 on him, did you?subtlelaugh.gif).

Guys, I read the magazine given to me by an Omega AD and I just thought the best person to own it would be Graham as the mag had quite a spread on the Ploprof 600. Felt good to give a buddy something useful....and enablingsubtlelaugh.gif

BIG CONGRATS on the TWINS, Graham! Wear them in good health always.
