A rainy day lead to a shopping excursion the next town over...

They have a TJ...

I saw the Gevril and it was a steal.

I don't know much about it other than it appears to be a 1st generation Gevril. May be one of our experts can shed some more light on this watch.

Not sure it is my cup of tea, but it is a damn nice watch.

Out to dinner with my Pops for his burthday so out of time.

Yea that is a good score there just for the name for one thing. And that dial is one of the most popular with Gevril. I've seen it in a different color and thought about it myself. Parent company to GV2.

That is one to have as they say for the bragging rights. Gevril is some where in the top 10 oldest watch companies out there.

Congrats on the pickup there. ;)

Congrats Mark on a Awesome Gevril!....this particular model is made from 1st gen. parts that Sam Friedman owner of Gevril found and put to use...I have a silver dial and they are sweet...all hand made/guilochet dials, custom cases hand6.gif The true 1st gens can be identified by a red rectangular block found between the III and the chapter ringwatch2.gif

Here is a borrowed pic of the 1st gen. Gevril with the block at III which Cris S here at 3T has hand6.gif The one's we have are identical less the red block watch2.gifThe local AD is getting $1495. for them and TT just got our's back at SAH for $699.....
so at anything lower is a steal for a fine 100% Swiss Gevril cool10.gif

Thanks for the info and kind words. My folks really liked the look of this one... I told them the story over my Dad's birthday cake... But they are pushing 70!! I know it is a sweet and beautiful watch, but I am not sure if it is one I am going to wear much and that is a shame.

I'm gonna see how it grows on me... photgraph it lovingly and debate if it should go on the block...

I'm extremley interested in this watch but they are hard to find at jewelers to review.  I am impressed with the quality and craftmanship but I'm concerned that the scale is on the small size given width and length, and many are wearing bigger case watches now.  Is it on the small side and out of style at this point or would you reccomend me adding it to my collection.  Thank you!

Truth be told you are looking at a nearly two year old post. I flipped the watch some time ago not so much because of the size but rather because it seemed a dress watch I didn't need or wear enough to justify letting it gather dust. Imho, the size was not an issue though I would think it might be if you are large wristed.

Thank you very much for the response.  I just signed up to this forum and I'm a recent watch enthusiast as of the past 2 years.  I have about 10 and growing, Hamiltons, Oris, Tag, Swiss Army, Omega, an Old Mitar solid Gold,  it was my Dad's, invicta (but never again)  I like understated class, as well as larger cases, but the non-descript appeal and what appears to be quality as well as Gevril being in the business since 1758, just sounded unique and not overly commercialized to me.   Do you agree?  Did you enjoy the weight and feel before flipping and is it a quality piece for the money, or is this company resting and holding onto past laurels?

Also any tips on how to best use this site would be appreciated.  I have never sold or traded watches, suggestions on best way of doing that would be appreciated also, very much a novice here but enjoy these little works of wonder!!

My appreciation!

I can tell you the build quality on the watch I had was top notch. I got a killer deal at a TJ Maxx so the watch was well worth what I paid.

The best way to use this site? Well introduce yourself in the new member area and then start exploring and participating. Let's see you in the daily wrist check. We have a number of Gevril collectors who can give you more info on the brand if you mention it in your intro.

In short, jump right in and have fun!;)

Yes I agree,  I'm leaning toward the Silver back with Gold numbers, which of the First Generations do you like based on the pics shown?watch2.gif

Wow!cool10.gif Awsome collection,  I just discovered Gervil's and i suspected that the quality of second run "First generation, " might not be in the same league?  are there major differences in qulaity, etc??

Curious what is it about the brand you love?  I like the fact they are not overly commercial, the company goes back to 1758, and the faces and components appear to be quality?  what do you like about the brand, and should i invest in the new run of the First generation i was leaning toward this one, found at Over Stock for 399.00 what do you think about the quality of the second run of these?  Thanks for the help!

I've owned a few of the Gevril branded 1st gen watches, sold them all....IMO I like the GV2 branded watches better, I own several, they are much more contemporary and if you buy them right they are a great value....the secret is buying them at the right price.
