WHO deserves the right to play Ohio State for the National title ??????????? Even before the Arkansas game , the Gators had the toughest scheduel in the country.....Now that they beat the Razorbacks , it is said that Florida might not surpass Michigan in the BCS rankings .... HOW IS THAT ??????? I would much rather see the Gators play the Buckeyes over a rematch between Ohio St and Michigan ..... A playoff system is needed ...or at least add a game between the two best teams after the bowl season .....Imagine the revenue generated for a college superbowl

CJ,

I am biased of course, prior to today there was a 20+ point spread in the BCS between FL and Michigan, I dont see how they can jump that high with Michigan not playing.

That said I think you are right about a playoff. Michigan should play Florida and the winner play Ohio State.

JMHO of course;)

I am completely against that school up north playing OSU here in Glendale. I think it would ruin the annual battle between the two teams. What's the point of winning the game and your conference title if you have to turn around a month later and repeat the whole process. Tradition says the two teams play for it all every year in the final game of the season. Let's leave it that way.

What a great game that would be ( Mich vs Gators )  .....that would be better than either one playing Ohio State ....This year mabey Ohio St is way better than anyone else ...but a playoff system would be some great games....Wisconsin could pound on Notre Dame and mabey USC could play VT ....Boise could see if they are for real and play a LSU team ....you see where this could lead ????

Here's the deal (and Tony, there is no absolutely bias on my part - hehehe).  Ohio and Michigan have already played, and, since it was a late in the season game, a rematch would prove nothing.  If Ohio won, it would be like "been there, done that......what a waste of a bowl game".  If Michigan won, then the meetings would be split and no clear national champion could realistically be declared....what do you do then....oh, hey, yeh, I forgot, best 2 out of 3? mistake.gif Sure!!!!

Florida, on the other hand, played one of the toughest schedules in the toughest league in the country, and, in fact, the Gators won a higher percentage of their games than Michigan did (FLA 12 - 1 for 92.3%, MICH 11 - 1 for 91.67%)!  Therefore, even if the schedules were of equal toughness, clear logic points to the team winning a higher percentage of their contests as the victor in this race! yourock.gifwoohoo.gifyourock.gif

That said............I'm sure some Wolverine fans will have a whiny, emotional response!!!! subtlelaugh.gif

And there in lies the problem with this whole system.....Ohio State is #1 playing one of the weaker schedules..only 2 top25 teams all year. They did not play Wisconsin, (who Michigan beat) which has become a very very good football team.

That said ,I do except for bias, see Mikes point, which is a good one.

Sort of like the year that Miami (FL) won their 1st National Championship, when their only loss was a ass-whoopin' that the Gators gave them.....the bumper sticker read Miami Hurricanes, 1st in the Nation - 2nd in the State"!subtlelaugh.gif

The BCS is supposed to take into consideration strength of schedule, etc., but who knows whether that assesment is a continuos process or factored at the beginning of the season.  And even if it is a continuos process, it is still a subjective assessment, input by subjective people.  A computer will tell you exactly what it wants to.  The poll I put the most faith in is tha Coaches poll......I would think it to be the least subjective as each coach can only vote for their own team once!

If Michigan had won THE game, I would feel the same way. I just hate to see the BCS ruin another tradition in College football.

Gators #2 in AP Poll, #2 in USA Today Coaches Poll, expected to be #2 in Harris Poll..........yet everybody will say how unfair the BCS Poll is when Florida comes in at #2.........go figure!

Whipped might be strong....mabey creamed or shallacked .... or crushed .... Sorry Tony ... Michigan had thier chance and came close .....I still say a playoff is best....look at the NCAA mens basketball championship....It is the best thing going for basketball

Agree with many you. IMHO, Gators deserve to go to AZ. However, I would rather they establish a playoff system. It can only be fair this way.

Can't agree more about a playoff....but barring that, we have to use what we use and no system is perfect.....look how many #1 Basketball Teams get knocked off in the March Madness because of injuries, being flat, etc.  So even a playoff doesn't really work....that said, in addition to the BCS Poll that everyone hates and finds fault with, the professionals in the sport (ie: the AP "sportwriter's" Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll) also voted the Gators #2.

As to the National Title, I'm not sure anybody can beat Ohio, but then, who thought UCLA was going to kick USC in the ass?
