I just picked up The Beatles "Love" from Costco. Came with regular CD and a Audio DVD with Dolby and DTS 5.1 mixes. My 2 year old and I sat and listened to the 5.1 DTS mix and it was absolutely stunning! If anyone here is a Beatles fan and you have a 5.1 set-up at home, run out and get this thing asap. It really gives a wonderful new take on those great songs. The music was mixed by George Martin and his son Giles Martin from the master tapes at Abbey Road. Who better to do it, right? |

They are the eggmen. P.S. Yes, it's a must buy. Also, a must by for fans of 5.1 audio DVD's is Toy Matinee. An album by Pat Leonard and Kevin Gilbert. They produced some of Madonna's stuff in the late 80's. They're most famous for basically writing most of Sheryl Crow's debut cd, then having her dump them from the band. She's a *&#%! Hoo koo ka choo ......The eighties did produce some fine music .....Ummmmm I just cant think of anything off the top of my head ...... Oh yeah The Cars ...no that was the 70,s when they broke out ....The Police .....no thats the 70,s also ......The Talking Heads ...no ???? how about The Replacements ??? The Knack ??? Prince kicked ass no matter what anyone says !!!!! |

I'm by no means an expert, but, here goes. A 5.1 mix refers to the process of dividing up the sound field to utilize a 5.1 speaker and reciever set up. 5.1 refers to the number of speakers required: 1 center chanel, 2 front left and right, 2 rear left and right and 1 subwoofer (which is considered the .1). Anytime you see a movie in a modern theater you will be hearing a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix or (preferably) and DTS 5.1 mix. In the case of DVD audio music like The Beatles "Love", the mixer carefully places sounds throughout the sound field to create a sonic landscape that gives the music depth and (in my opinion) new life. In order to experience the 5.1 mix you need to have a Digital reciever that is capable of decoding Dolby or DTS 5.1 signals, which is most home theater recievers that you would find at Best Buy. If you have the set up for it, do yourself a favor and pick up some 5.1 mixed music. It's quite the experience. |

Wow, great explanation - I got it on the first read ... Sophisticated sound systems (for home use) are beyond me but they do make for a whole new experience and appreciation when exposed to them; like in the theater. I'm afraid most connoisseurs would liken my system to something Fred and Wilma Flintstone would have in their abode. I still have my Marantz system from the 90's ... :shock: ... |

Actually, home theater systems have come down in price a great deal. You can find package deals (receiver, and 5 speakers, more likely than not you'll have to buy your subwoofer separately) for under $500. Some are even near the $200 range. In my opinion, it's waaay worth it. Movie watching at home will never be the same. |
