Flew from NY to Puerto Rico this AM with my son for a long weekend and a little bit of work on Monday. At security at JFK I went through all the normal steps- empty the pockets, laptop, phone, shoes, into the tray to go through the machine and I walk though the gate. "Beep". Must be the belt. Off goes the belt and I try again- "beep" Ahh- the watch, my Blue Monstrum. I normally don't take off my watch to go through security and a Rolex GMT does not trigger the alarm. Anyhow, I handed the Monstrum to the TSA person and walked through with no "beep". Her comment (about the watch) "ees big! Lot of metal" |

No offense taken. Going to Disney next week, so I might have to make this into a science project of seeing what watches do or don't set off the alarm |

I can tell you for sure that a Seiko titanium Samurai will not set off the metal detector :D I discovered that coming back from Disney this past summer. On the way down, the foil on my cigarette pack set it off, I ended up taking off watch, wedding ring, emptying pockets etc until I took my smokes out of my pocket. Then the TSA put some scratches in the Sammy's bracelet free of charge. I refused to take it off on the way back but I did put my smokes in the tray. No alarm, go figure. Cheers, Griff I don't hate to fly, but I HATE airports. |

Ooops! Experiment confirmed. Monstrum set off the alarm going through security at Philadelphia, though it did not inspire any comments. Not a peep from the LM2 on the way back at Orlando. Side note- I could not help thinking that the hang straps in the monorail at Orlando Airport ( black leather and beefy) would make for a nice watch strap, though they are likely a little too thick. |
