Yahoo, as of 19:30 hours Saturday evening, we have power back and I am out to 3t as my first official act.  We were without electric due to Ike, for just over one week.  Others are still without electric and others still have no water.  Pretty bad.

Later,

Mr. Bill

Man, being without electric is a real bummer.  There is so much going on in the world and without the juice, you have to call friends in other parts of the country to see how you're doing.

Doing without water is an even bigger problem.  We were not without water, but many are.  Imagine being unable to wash your dishes or take a shower for a week...or three. Wearing clothes that are dirty or not fresh.  Lack of fresh water is a real hardship and many folks are beginning to break down as a result of this stress.

On the positive side, people are pitching in and taking care of business in Houston.  Everyone is out cleaning up and helping their neighbor.  (My neighbor just dropped off eight hotdogs for my wife and I that he cooked on the grill.)  NOBODY is sitting around waiting for Uncle Sam to fix everything for them.  Nor have I heard a single person complain about a lack of government response.  It's nice to see people pull together.

I heard 7,000 workers from other states have come to Texas to help get us back on our feet.  That's great!

Thanks again for everyone's thoughts and prayers.  It's great to be back among the WIS.

Bill...enough of this frivolity...let's get serious for a minute!  What watch did you wear for the hurricane?

I agree Ken.  Let's get on to the serious stuff.  Believe me, before Ike arrived, I did think about what we might face and which watch would be best.  I decided on the TSAR because of its gas tubes and general ruggedness.  I wore the TSAR from Friday night until Tuesday afternoon and was glad to be able to read the time in the dark, which began about 8PM.

Then, on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon, the Barracuda arrived, and I quickly used what daylight remaining to remove three links from the bracelet.  I then wore the Barracuda from that point on.  However, I did keep the TSAR handy all night.

WOW!  So that old postman's creed stuff really works..."Neither rain nor snow, nor sleet nor dark of night shall....."   I'm a little confused though...didn't you have the date set on the TSAR? mistake.gif

Mail service was reliable.  The only day we didn't get mail was Saturday.  I know you were just kidding about the date being set on my TSAR.  Truth be told, as I was responding to your earlier post, I just couldn't remember on what day the Barracuda arrived...they all ran together.  It did come on Wednesday though.

I can relate to not knowing the day of the week in a 24/7 crisis situation....I have gone for months without know what the day of the week is.  For example, I can tell you that OCT 22, 1968 was a Tuesday and DEC 22 was a Sunday...other than that....nothing!

I can tell you that I was wearing a Glycine Airman!!!  :D
