protocol in a situation like this is always the same for any honest WIS....e-mail him that a full refund will be made once you receive the watch back..it's not worth getting all stressed over especially since the watch involved could have easily had the crown/stem pulled out...he may have been a bit more forceful on pulling it out in order for it to release but it's a Seagull and could have easily happened...chalk it up as a WIS lesson learned my friend...ThumbsUp02.gif

Either that or tell him it's about a $20 fix by a professional watchmaker in the US (and it should be cheaper in Singapore) and that you will refund him that amount out of courtesy or you will refund his money after you receive the watch via registered mail...postage is on him!

Thanks again everyone...

I emailed him exactly what everyone here is saying, but this guy is insisting on refund before mailing the watch back to me, which is completely ridiculous...I will tell him again to send the watch back first, and after I get it I will refund his funds.  Also looking at paypals claims procedures, they also suggest the same method; mail back, then refund...Very valuable lesson learned here.  And you gotta love that Ozzy...

Cheers,

Mario...

Mario...great advice by all the excellent WIS's here at 3T!!!bravo.gif

Very sorry that you are experiencing an obvious "sour" and "not-on-the-up-and-up" deal...(with your offer, it appears you are definitely being taken for a ride on this deal).crap.gif

It is very unfortunate...you are doing the right thing here, and I really hope this deal ends up being "right and with integrity" in the end.  This guy is a definite scammer to be insisting that you refund him PRIOR to returning the watch...BOOOO!...hammer.gif...yes, you might as well hit yourself with a hammer...(why can't all watch deals be smooth ones)????

I have been lucky to have only had ONE bad deal in all of my dealings...bought a piece through the "bay" which was completely misrepresented and in this case, the "bay" fully stood behind their guarantee...I returned the watch despite no communication from the seller, and the "bay" fully refunded my purchase including shipping.  Yes, sometimes the good guys win, and I hope that this works out "right" for you Mario.

The guy was willing to take a detailed photo, and he did pay for it in the first place, so I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that it arrived that way, and offer to refund his money after you receive the watch.

On another note, that's a nice-looking watch!  I've grown to like orange lume on black dials quite a bit lately.

Sux for both of you, no doubt. Look at it the opposite way.

He sent you money before he had the watch (standard procedure), you send the watch, he gets it and discovers the crown pulls out complete with stem.

Could he be on another forum in Singapore stating "I got taken for a ride by a guy on another forum. Look at this POS Sea-Gull he claims works fine, and here the crown/stem popped right out".

If he's doubtful, offer to refund partial payment, enough to cover his return shipping. When you get it, send the balance of payment.

Marc

btw - as mentioned previously, SG is one of the least expensive places to have work performed on a watch.

Just out of curiosity, are you sure that is your Sea-Gull that is in the picture?

My 2 cents....OK 5 cents because of the recession happy1.gif

I agree with every one else....accepted protocol on the FS forums in cases like this is if you agree to refund his money (and you probably should) requiring you receive the watch back first  is the accepted way of doing business.

So the guy continued to refuse the refund as was talked about here, continuing to request refund first then sending the watch back.  I explained to him many times that I would have no protection this way...finally told him to read paypal protocol on these matters.  After this he says he doesn't want a refund any more and asks for a repair fee of $50, claiming that repairs of any kind a extremely expensive in Singapore...in the end we were able to negotiate an adequate amount to be refunded...however I still feel like a schmuck.

After he gave up on the full refund, before shipping the watch back to me, I let him know what I thought he was doing, he didn't reply to this at all...if he is doing what I think he is, I really wonder how many people have been victims of these kinds of people.  I feel as though I should put a warning about this guy, but am not 100% sure so I am at a loss...if anyone wants this guy's user name PM me.

And yes, that was the watch I sent him...i can tell by the brushed bezel area, originally these are polished.  I ended up brushing it for a different look.

Again many thanks for all the advice...it's great to have such an honest forum to visit...

I really pity those loosers who are making 50 buks scams or want to swindle someone for 150 buks.
Poor suckers, they are so ridiculous: How can 50 buks can make a life better or different?no.gif
Remember me those asses who rob a grocery shop at gun-point for 200 buks, a pack of smokes and a bag of chips...
