Ok, before you guys/gals begin thinking, “What is Pops thinking” or “Is he serious, he‘s got too much money“ ….. or “I thought he was targeting another watch and wasn’t buying anything till then (well this is only a thought)“. This came to mind (or was initiated) when I had a passing thought that it would be cool to also find and own the limited offering or version of a watch that I already own, keeping both of course. Well this thought came back to me after I was made aware that this watch was now available again, in addition to not knowing how many units will be available at this new offering (as well at a sub $1K price). This would also give me the opportunity to buying this one new. Which I’d keep on hand till/when I had to service the present one or if for some reason was damaged beyond repair. The only time I did something like this was when I purchased a SS Rolex Sub, after which I wanted a dressier version so I purchased a SS and Gold version. Well that was during a different life, as well as this present watch is a sub $1K. So how many of you made a purchase for this and or similar reason?..... or am I the only one? Nope, Haven't thought about it Lance BUTTTTT I have thought about buying back the same model watch after I sold it. It seems to be true that "you don't know what you have till it's gone" really lives up to its meaning. As for backups, I prefer many models and haven't seen a model that I care about so much that I need a backup....but you never know.

Lance, my answer is YES. I'd buy the same watch again but not for back up but rather because of the sheer pleasure of owning a 2nd one. I have a few of these watches in 2s and am even thinking of getting a 3rd unit of a select model. I speak of the Seiko Marine Master SBDX011 or the Darth Tuna.

I thought about it many times... Been really close to buy a secound Certina DS3. I had mine for 5 years and it went through a lot, accumulating small scratches. Then I thought that I should have a "mint" one to wear sometimes. Since there was made only 1888 pieces of this reedition, it will be hard for me overtime to find it in new condition... Those thoughts came to me mostly on "limited" editions I really like over long time.

I've never bought a pure "backup" just to have a second version of the first, but for my vintage watches I do look for beat up models that have the same movement to make sure I have spare parts.

I don't consider owning the same model watch but with a different color dial or in 2 tone owning the "same" watch. I have bought the identical watch in doubles more than a few times speculating that it would sell out quickly and could be used to feather a deal on another watch or to sell outright to fund something else down the road and still knowing I have one NIB....no sellers remorse. ![]() ... look at the Benarus forum right now and see WIS reserving as many as 3 Megalodon III's that were just released and all 150 are gone in less than 48 hrs. ![]()

Everybody, I appreciate all of your responses. It’s always interesting to see different points of views or ways of looking at something, thanks! However, like I mentioned, this was only a thought. Although a reoccurring one as of late….and you know how that goes. Since this one is closer to the $1K price point. Although it's gonna take awhile (due to this messed up economy), I’ve decided that I’ll be a "Good Boy", keep saving till I’m able to pull the trigger on the watch I’ve placed my sights on. In addition to having business' like IWW and MCWW to fall back on, should the need arises....I'm good to go either way! Hope you’all had a great week end! Lance Btw you'all are a great bunch to hang with...Although you do make it tough on a guy at times......LOL Last edited on Mon Feb 21st, 2011 10:40 am by azpops |

I think your point is right on the money Lance. Once you have your sight set on another piece, it's really hard to venture elsewhere, even if its owning a second watch of the same model you own. I'd say save up and get that piece that's closer to the 1k line, you won't regret it! ![]()

Thanks zepp,... ![]() The watch I've got my sights on is a little north of that figure....LOL And you want to hear the kicker? If I had the coin right now, I could save $900 bucks. Timings everything ain't it? You’re right though, "No Regretts" by staying the course! Lance Last edited on Mon Feb 21st, 2011 06:36 pm by azpops |

hhhmmm, never thought of that! I did buy 3 pair of my favorite sunglasses years ago as they were discontinued. I figure I'm good from now 'til the end of the road![]() Seems a good idea if you have a favorite watch to buy an extra original strap or band, as they get discontinued, too.
