Charmex Men's Swiss Military Steel Watch - Water Resistant to 12,000 Feet !In 2003, Frank M. Bürgin tackled the daunting task of developing the most water resistant mechanical diver's watch known to man, the 12,000 FEET, under the brand name of CX SWISS MILITARY WATCH™, a company founded in 1963.
It took several prototypes of different stainless steel compositions to optimize the weight/pressure resistance quotient. The crystal also needed a completely different approach than any created to date, withstanding a pressure of up to 370kg / cm2. A series of laboratory tests finally resulted in a 8mm thick domed sapphire crystal (a record on its own) with an anti-reflective coating ensuring that the dial can still be read perfectly under all conditions. This crystal will actually expand an additional mm due to the extreme pressure for which it is built, a technical feat that Charmex will not discuss beyond the fact that they achieved it.
A new approach was used for the helium relief valve, resulting in no moving parts that might get clogged. In order to develop and test the case and crystal a new pressure tank capable of building up a pressure of up to 800atm had to be built and tested from scratch.
All individual parts of the watch underwent a multitude of tests before final production. The final and successful type testing was undertaken by the renowned Oceanographic Institute of the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom (see http://www.soc.soton.ac.uk/), based on the ISO norm 6425.
There are four dial choices, blue, black , white or yellow.
Included with each purchase of this watch is massive original display packaging, C.O.S.C. Certificate, and the Guinness Book of World Records Certificate.
This is a Limited Edition, only 400 made.

Only $2199.00! At that price I should buy two. I don't think my entire watch collection is worth that much. :(

Don't crucify me but I have to say I think these verge on absurd...  Aren't they like 19mm tall?? There's no profile shot on SAH...JMHO

While I appreciate the technology...I'm not sure I can get the Club to make the pool that much deeper.:)

...and, for that kind of money, I'd rather start scouting for a good, preowned Grand Seiko!

What borders the absurd are big watches whose bigness serves no purpose (see renato and many invicta wristclocks). The bigness of the charmax translates into 12000 ft WR. Its large size (like that of most genuine diver watches) is an advantage for those who dive, but the charmax is one of the few of the former that looks good enough  to wear as a regular everyday watch.

Seeing it live on TV last night made it tempting but I just could not go for it. To many other prospects in line I really want.

But wow what a awesome watch in so many ways. ;)

I must confess I actually watched that last night too ...

I couldn't have blown that much money on a "made for tv brand" if someone had dared me to... If you want a decent deep diver go find a Seawolf trust me you won't miss the extra 600 meters claimed by chapstick.. um caramel... whatever the heck Tim was selling last night... ;)
