Since people are venting about different things i thought I would chime  in on one of my pet peaves.  It really frosts me that sellers dont leave feedback once they receive the payment.  As long as the item they sold is as described and shipped properly they should have nothing to worry about.  I cant stand when they wait to see what the buyer has to say.  For the feedback system to work properly IMO the seller needs to leave FB first.  My wife bought me a watch box for my birthday on ebay and the seller emailed me that we need to leave feedback but they havent yet.  I wrote back and told them they needed to leave it.  Once he got our money our part of the transaction was done.  He still hasnt left feedback.  Whenever I sell an item I always leave feedback as soon as I get the payment.  Am I wrong here?  crap.gif

I've been lucky I guess. I've had several people leave feedback as soon as payment was recieved. I, of course, leave feedback after recieving the item.

Thats the way it should be.  I have lost so much feedback because sellers are afraid to leave it before I do.

If you subscribe to eBay "best practices," the best procedure for a seller to follow is to only leave feedback after the buyer leaves feedback.  If you read any of the best-selling eBay selling books available at Borders/B&N/etc., they all say the same.

The reason for this is that the buyer's "performance" is not complete when he/she pays for the merchandise.  If the buyer has issues with the product, they are expected to work in a reasonable manner with the seller to resolve them.  This same concept applies to the seller - - his/her performance is not complete after delivering the package to the post office.  The seller is expected to make all reasonable efforts to satisfy the buyer, within the confines of the selling terms noted in the auction.

The key word here is "reasonable."  If you do business regularly on eBay as either a buyer or seller, you will encounter people who are UNreasonable and perhaps even unscrupulous.  Only after both parties have completed ALL steps involved in a transaction, is it "complete" and subject to leaving feedback.  Since the buyer is the last person to have their expectations satisfied, it is the buyer's feedback that signals completion of the transaction in a satisfactory manner.  Almost all experienced eBay sellers take this feedback as a trigger to also leave feedback for the buyer.

Being a frequent eBay seller (and sometimes "PowerSeller"), I also subscribe to the above "best practice." :D

Sounds good to me Scott. I had a family member and 2 friends get ripped off the Spring of 2005 and I quit doing business with eBay myself then in support of them. Dose not sound to me like much has improved over the last 3 years.

Now and then I'll look to see what they have or gage prices maybe but with the the stories I still hear about the place I wont touch it for business.

I've been able to get better deals from other places like here on the forum anyway and a few other places. ;)

I understand what you are saying BUT, if the seller has properly described his item and packed it properly and shiped it out in a reasonable time he should have nothing to worry about.  In my mind the buyers part of the transaction IS done when he sends the money. If I recieived an item that wasnt right i would first contact the seller and try to get it resolved.  After that THEN I would leave appropriate feedback.  This BS of "You leave good feedback for me THEN I will leave it for you" has to end.  I have sold many things on ebay and always left feedback when I got paid.  Never had a problem with a buyer.

I agree 100%.  The buyer's obligations to the transaction end the moment payment is tendered.  Sellers who do not immediately leave positive feedback tend to be vengeful, cheap, inconsiderate human beings who inevitably will be a problem down the road.  It's gotten to the point where I now will not ever leave positive feedback for a seller who does not leave feedback for me first.  Why should I subsidize people acting like bratty A-holes?  Thankfully, E-bay's most recent rule changes are all buyer-friendly.
