I'll heading out of town for the weekend, but before leaving, I wanted to offer my heartfelt thanks to all active and former military for your service. Were it not for your sevice and sacrifice, and that of your families, my family and I would not enjoy the freedoms we do. God bless you.

Double ditto from me. Those of you whom I have communicated with know how I feel, and for those who I haven't, THANK YOU! There is no nobler sacrifice than to serve one's country in such a manner!

Big thanks to all serving now and all who have served their country be it the USA or any of our friends and allies.

I proudly served and and would do it again if I could. Some find it odd I would say that who know me. I'm a service connected 100% disabled vet. Yea got a little messed up. But I knew the odds and have no regrets. Many members of my family are in the same status and some gave all. And I would indeed do it all over again if able with no hesitation.

But not all can serve or are even meant to. Everyone has their part in life. Live it, and enjoy it for freedom has been and still is being paid for. Don't let it go to waste.

A Big "THANK YOU" to all that have served and to those that are still serving our Great Country..the United States of America.  It is because of people like you that this country is still free today!  Thanks, Tim.

thankyou.gif Veterans. But an important distiction needs to be made as Ken taught me a year or 2 ago. Memorial Day is reserved for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

I want to especially remember those families that mourn the loss of a loved one during this weekend, and those that were lucky enough to make it home but know the pain of losing a comrade during battle.

We salute you.

This is so true. Memorial Day was original intended as a tribute for those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Many of us who serve or have served, have made sacrifices in our lives as the price of service. For some it's personal, others mental, and for others it's physical. There are many reasons we serve, some simple and others more complex,  but the one thing true in all cases, is that we served. This country has survived as long as it has due to the sacrifices of it's military members. I want to take this time to say 'Thanks' to those who came before me, those with me and a optimistic 'Welcome to a unique brotherhood' to those who will come after me. But especially a 'We are grateful for the sacrifice your family has made' to the families who have lost someone. Our thanks can never replace the loss of a loved one, but be assured that as long as The United States lives, that sacrifice will not be forgotten.

The biggest most heartfelt thank you to all of those brave men and women that left thier lives and families behind to go and defend this great nation. To those that have come home, those still pressing the fight and those who never made it back from the bottom of my humble and grateful heat I say THANK YOU!
I have a bit of a rant on this subject that I want to let fly for a min. First I have to preface this by saying I have a cousin who I grew up with that is like a younger brother to me who is on his second tour in Iraq as we speak. The Marines volunteered him for his first trip and he volunteered for his second.
Now to get up on my soapbox!
What really pisses me off about people today is they are more concerned with how they should be off for the holiday instead of taking just a minute to think about the men and women that that this day was created to honor. The men and women who are away from their families for holidays, birthdays, births and deaths sleeping in tents in the middle of the desert. Some only boys barely out of high school and some proud grandparents. This pure outright disrespect just makes me sick deep down in the pit of my stomach.
Yeah Im stuck at work wishing I was with my friends at the lake house playing on the boat and cooking on the grill but I have to think about people like my cousin. People like my buddy Tom who is 21 years old who left half way through his sophomore year of college to go over seas and fight without question. Those guys would love to be at the lake even more than I and in my eyes they deserve it a million times more that i do but they have even less opportunity than me. I can take off and go next weekend but they don't have that luxury.
Im not condemning anyone for enjoying their weekend, in fact I am really saying the exact opposite. Go enjoy your long weekend or your day off. Spend time with your friends and family and enjoy the BBQ and libations that is what those brave people fought and died for: your freedom to do as you please how you please! But take a moment to remember why you have the day off and those that gave you that freedom.
I'll get off my box now. It just makes me sad to see that our society has degraded to this state. In my eyes Memorial Day and Veterans Day are two of the most important holidays our country has. So on these most auspicious of days take the time out to shake the hand of a vet or check in on that young mother with her newborn child whose husband is off in some place she doesn't even know. Remember fellas that these are the guys who give us the freedom to drink a cold beer and cook a rack of ribs on what is usually a work day. They give us the opportunity to spend freely on the watches, cigars and what ever else we want to spend our money on.
So again I just want to say thanks boys and girls, men and women for all that you did, do and will do in the future. My hat is off to youThumbsUp02.gif
Sorry for the ramble guys, this is just one of the tings that flips my switch!
Had to edit cause part of my little mumbling got left out, probably the most important part at that.mistake.gif

My heartfelt thanks to all those who posted....my very special remembrance is for 1LT Larry A. Garner, the Original Bandido, and his family, who willingly sacrificed his life to rescue others.

Thanks to all servicemen and women. There's no reason why we can't say official 'thanks' 2 days per year? 365 wouldn't be enough anyway.

I work for a large defense contractor making all the gadgets and gizmos that the warfighter uses (our motto is "We Protect Those Who Protect Us"), and I always say to myself, "I could never muster up the courage".

Skip said it best!

Enjoy your extended weekend. . . in 12 minutes the Blue Angels will pass over my house on their way to the air show. Yippie! (hold onto your hats)

Marc
