I know you guys probably dont want to hear this but I gotta get it off my chest.  Back in nov. I had blood work done. My triglycerides were 445 and chol. was 216.  So I changed my diet.  In march got retested trigs 413 and chol 200.  Dr put me on Tricor.  Within a day my muscles started aching.  9 days later I was weak and had pain in all my joints except fingers and toes.  I called dr and he said to stop taking the Tricor.  That was 23 days ago.  It hurts so bad that I can hardly get out of my chair in the eve.  Today it has moved into my fingers.  My hands are my living. My ankles even started to swell.   My stepmother is an RN and she said that stuff stays active in your system for up to 5 weeks.  I want to know what the hell did this med do to me???!!! It is almost debilitating.  I can just make it through the day.  I have to take 2 advils at bedtime so I can sleep.   Any of you guys ever have anything like this happen to you?  I am calling the dr again tomorrow.   :X

I've never experienced that sort of thing, but if you haven't stopped taking that med then do so now. You shouldn't be experiencing that level of discomfort and I'd be willing to bet that if you looked at the list of possible reactions you'll find what you're experiencing.

Hopefully you will get it out of your system rather fast. I would suggest drinking juices like crazy and allot of water. Also besides talking to the doctor go talk to a Senior pharmacist where you picked up the prescription and ask if he or she has heard of this happening before.

I feel for ya Scott. March 1987 I was involved in a chemical spill. That is a big part of why I am a disabled veteran on top of a few other things too but I have been living like that since. My flare ups are mild to crazy bad. You may recall I was down for 9 weeks the end of 2007 from a real bad one. But I live with daily pain and all that comes with it. Nothing they can do. But they should be able to cleanse your system and get you back to normal within a 14 to 21 day period.

I'll keep ya in my prayers there Scott I know it is Hell. How is your sleep?

Thanks Skip.  I have had trouble sleeping for years. (Thats why I am up ill 1 am)  I take a "simply sleep" every night.  Even with that, I had to start taking advil at bedtime since I started with this med because I couldnt sleep from all the pain I am in.  As long as I take the advil, I sleep half decent.

Yea Advil helps a little. All the other OTC pain pills are useless. And I try to stay away from the heavy prescriptions stuff for I don't want to get addicted.

I self medicated with booze from 1987 to 1998 and then worked my way out of that.

Keeping my mind busy is they only think that keeps me from going mad probably.

I've had 3 shrinks say I'm a crazy one but not insane yet. LOL :D

But look into all options for help. Do not hesitate to go out side the norm if legal either.

I forgot what normal sleep was along time ago. And narcotics make me have crazy vivid dreams so gave up on those a decade ago after about 3 weeks.

But that is so weird the meds affected you like this. Watch your blood pressure. Pain can push it up. :?

Gotcha. Then talking to a doctor is the only thing I can think of besides Skip's suggestion about flushing your system as best you can.

Severe side effect from the meds. It will take some time to flush from your system. Lots of liquids should help. Tell the Doc he side effects were major and if you still need a med that he needs to try another. Good luck!:D

You need to find a way to sweat, Sauna, jacuzzi, shadow boxing in the mirror of a bathroom while hot shower steam is going on, Drink an electrolyte replacement drink, even gatorade. I drink Cyclomax for this purpose. 100 oz of water a day at 200 lbs or adjust for your weight.

Stretch yourself, at least for 30 minutes a day, even Yoga if you can take the pain.

sorry to hear this

Good Luck

Ill let you know about Vegas Soon

I've been taking Tricor for nearly 9 months with nearly no side effects ... the 'higher' dosage of the 2 available as well. I did notice some slight side effects when I started, but NOTHING like you are describing :( .

I think the 'lots of water' and 'sweat a lot' pieces of advice here are very good. You need to ask your doctor exactly what physically is causing these side effects ... maybe there is some physical therapy he can perscribe.

Not a doctor, but it sounds like this med caused acute inflammation of joints and muscle.  Go see the doctor (and, BTW, get a 2nd opinion) and tell him there is still a problem....you might ask if a strong anti-inflammatory like Indomethicine might help.

While I am not a doctor, my father was a world famous Pathologist.  Due to all the autopsies and research he did, he maintained that about 80% of people that die in a doctor's care, a "killed" by the doctor...it may be different now with more stringent requirements for Board certifications and continuing study requirements.

Also, you might want to call a pharmacist and discuss the medication with him along with everything else you may be taking (including OTC).  Pharmacists are much more highly educated and knowledgeable about drug reactions and interactions than doctors are.

Scott,

I feel for you. I have been taking Tylenol PM for about 2 years to help me sleep at night, I just switched to a vitamin supplement of 5mg Melatonin (same stuff as in Turkey). I suffer from Migraines due to Occipital Neuralgia (from a sports related neck injury) as well as High Blood pressure. Drinking lots of water (96 ounces a day), should help to keep your body hydrated. Keep in mind that your muscles are 70% water. Also a vitamin B complex should help to reduce the loss of proteins that some Cholesterol medicines can in induce.

And most of all, just like everyone else has said, talk to your Doctor.

I, too, will keep you in my prayers...

Bill
