I know this will PO some people, but the media allows ND to live in the past and constantly overrates them.  Look at their overall records and then look at their Bowl games...I believe they have the record for most consecutive Bowl losses...and by huge scoring differentials!

What happened to Michigan is not uncommon....The Classic Example: It happened to Oklahoma (I believe) in the Orange Bowl when the Hurricanes won their 1st Nat Championship.  Michigan came in not mentally prepared because they thought it was a "walkover" prep game.  AS came at them with everything they had and Michigan couldn't get it together until half-time (if that).  They came back well, but just couldn't quite put it back together.

Michigan is a good team with some obvious defensive weaknesses, but this was a mental prep thing...not a talent thing! mistake.gif

Miami v Oklahoma Orange Bowl

Half time:  Miami 33, Oklahoma 0

Final:  Miami 33, Oklahoma 32

While I agree with the "mental prep" analogy Ken........the example is between 2 powerful football programs with mega talent............what makes it worse ,as far as Michigan is concerned, and even more spectaular for the kids at ASU is the difference in talent........good thing though the adage "never underestimate heart and desire" proved to be true again.

I cant blame a coach for mental errors on the field, but I can blame him IMHO when your team is lethargic and inept.

Totally agree witht the Notre Dame thing....but GTech has had some talented football teams so that one surprises me less.

As a die hard Ohio State fan, I can't get enough of the stories today about that school up north. And, I hope they keep Lloyd Carr forever!!! Please don't fire him. hearteyes.gifhearteyes.gifhearteyes.gif

I am with Ken and Tony on ND. Overrated at present and living in the past. Their lucrative TV contract keeps them rolling.

Michigan sure got a wake up call though!!

BTW... I know no one asked but:
Badgers got a QB in the form of a Wisconsin homeboy. Had a nice day with 3 throwing TDs and 1 rushing TD and 284 yards in the air. Defense was shakey, but we weren't playing a total cupcake!!
BTW... first time the Badgers have worn all read. I kinda dig it!

Tony....didn't mean to imply that the coach was/is blameless...as a matter of fact, he is mostly to blame as it is part of his function to get the team mentally, as well as physically, prepared for the game.  I was just responding to the "insight" part of the thread question!

Notre Dame is simply a mediocre team that has the ability to pick their own weak schedule (except for a couple of games "forced" on them by TV), thus, their continued "winning seasons" with no definable ability!

Notre Dame is simply overrated .... I doubt they will win 7 games .....Michigan bit off more than they could chew .... Ap St. is a great AA team ....If Mich loses to Ohio St., Carr must go ..... Florida and Wisconsin all the way to the big game smile8.gif
