Hucky,  you did right by protecting your dog.  I agree with Ken, I would have filed a report.  This dog probably has attacked before if it sensed your dog was insecure.  I would have wanted to know if it had all its shots also.  Irresponsible pet owners really piss me off.  We have neighbors down the road that leave their dogs run free and they come up here and eat my outside dogs food.  So I call the dog catcher.  Whenever the guy goes past my place and I am out he gives me the finger.  I just smile at him.
So just go and have fun with Enzo.  Dont feel bad about what happened,  as you had nothing to apologize for. BTW, he looks awesome!  Now, go make some great memories with that new pup!

I agree w/ all here Hucky, you did the right thing. Something else to keep in mind, there are dog owners, and idiots who happen to own dogs. Dog owners know that animals sort things out their own way, which can look like fighting. My wife doesn't understand that sometimes, and when our 100 lb lab sorts out a pecking order w/ a little push and growl, it's not a big deal. On the other hand, when the sorting out gets a little too aggressive, it takes a bit more action to get them seperated, which is what you did. Your pup looks good sized, so I'm assuming the other dog was a good sized dog as well, and you don't just "pull" them away. It takes some real strength, and getting in the middle to pull or push them apart is what is taken. This is what your particular idiot, someone who just owns a dog, doesn't get.

A dog park should be a great place for your pup, where he can feel comfortable and get used to socialization and the translating from instinct to socially acceptable behavior. Her dog crossed the line, she knows it, and took the typical route that someone embarassed took, she attacked you for it!

You did great, don't worry, bring your pup back and speak to the dog park personnel next time you see the one who witnessed your situation to make sure their interpretation was the same as yours. Obviously they felt the same way as you, or I'm sure they would've banned you.

Beautiful looking dog by the way!

What Ken said Huck!hand6.gif Showing restraint was more than enough on your part....a pet is like a child and if some dog would attack one of my children....G-forbid where that dog would be today!yourock.gif

Hey Hucks.  I haven't read anyone else's replys yet an just thought I'd give you my thoughts.  First, stop feeling bad man.  I think your reaction was appropriate and I'd have done the same thing.

I own a Rottweiler (a badly abused rescue) who gets along great with people, children as well, but dislikes other dogs.  I realize as her master, it's my responsibility to ensure she doesn't harm other dogs.  The owner of the other dog was 100% at fault in that situation.  She should not have made it necessary for you to kick her dog.  Her dog should have been leashed and you should have been allowed to enjot the park without fear of attack.

You and I seem to have in common the fact we are frequently in conflict with irresponsible people who think the world revolves around them alone.  I get into it all the time with knot heads who can't think.  I frequently feel bad afterwords too...but I get over it in a short while.  Don't give it another thought man.

I'm glad your puppy is okay, at least physically.  You might consider taking her to some group obedience classes where she'll be exposed to other dogs in a controlled environment.  That might increase her confidence and help her to become less fearful.  I've done that to help my dog get over her fear of othet dogs. (She reacts aggressively toward other dogs because she is fearful.)  I also take her up to the local PetSmart and just sit outside and let her watch other dogs come and go.  I bring some water, dog treats and a chair and we just sit there and watch the canine world go by.  This has really been helpful.  It costs nothing and the PetSmart are fine with us sitting there.  Socialization is really important for young dogs.

Good luck you you sir and don't feel bad for protecting you dog.

Mr. Bill

Look at it from the other side. . .  this lady turns to see you kick her dog. She didn't see who (what) was the instigator. So, just like you don't like your dog getting bitten, she doesn't like her dog getting beaten.

As I said to begin with, I probably would have done the same thing. And she would have too (I think anybody would).

Glad everyone is OK !

And therein lies the problem...if she was not watching her dog then SHE was being irresponsible.  If she was not watching her dog then SHE has the responsibility to ascertain what happened before flying off the handle.  I am sick and tired of excuses for people shirking their personal responsibilities.

What's next...she had a bad childhood and her dog is acting out because of it?...BS...people make choices, and they are responsible for their choices...whether they and others are "man" enough to accept it or not!

...she was in the wrong and failed as a pet owner and as a person...to attempt to excuse her is incomprehensible to me!
My man Ken.  You sir, are a man after my own heart.  Well said sir. perfect.gif
