need some input guys

Im at dog park with my puppy 4 months old and this older dog attacks it and bites it in the neck 4 times, my puppy is afraid of all the other dogs, so he started nothing,  hes just getting used to being there. I reacted out of instinct and threw a kick to the dogs chest squarely with my in step, nothing brutal, just a wake up call, I know how hard and how to control my kicks, trust me.

So the lady in her 40s starts cussing at me and calling me names, I almost reacted and then I caught myself once I seen my dog was okay and I apologized 4 times with no success from her, She didnt apologize to me for her dog attacking mine, I apologized more than once and in more than one way, stating that it was my fault and it was a protective reaction that I had and that I was out of line, The dog park official was ther and saw and heard it all, especially my apologizing to her.

She left the park pissed off with her dog and never said a word after that to me.

Now I feel terrible, as always, I always find myself in these situations with other people creating a situation that I find myself reacting to and then I always seem to be the bad guy here. My dog is not a vicious breed, hes only a puppy he started nothing, but when I see another big older dog on top of him with my puppys neck in his mouth, I reacted. I was in the wrong to react the way I did I guess?

Now I feel like I dont want to go to the dog park, that one anyway and I also am having an angry day now.

What should I do?

Thanks Men

Huck

Hucky you did right by your pet. I would have reacted the same way and even more so had one of my children been endangered. I am firmly convinced the pissed off woman from your story was not controlling her animal and probably wasn't even aware of its actions until it attacked your dog. I could be wrong but I am guessing she was clueless until you took care of business. Hucky, you're taking things in at twice the speed of the "average" Joe. Your highly attuned to your surroundings and all that goes on around you. Realize pal, a lot of  people don't think at all beyond their noses and this is a weakness in that not only do they have lack a communal consciousness but they may also be thought of as dumb-asses, shit for brains and the occasional jag-off who is aware but doesn't care; the douche-bag.

If the park official saw the whole thing you have no need to worry. Go back and have fun with the puppy and don't be paranoid they've pegged you and your dog as rabble-rousers. You did the right thing and then some. An ass like myself would have not apologized and let the woman know she and her freakin' dog were far out of line.

You're a good shit Hucky!!Thumbsup3.gif

Here's the bottom line, Huck...tell the obnoxious, self-absorbed bitch that the next time her dog attacks yours or any other, you will do whatever it takes to stop the attack, and then you will hold the dog while calling the police!

As a matter of fact, if this is a public puppy park, you should report the incident as a possible vicious dog and park misuse, relating a description of the dog and it's owner ...it's almost mandatory, so that the next time it happens, won't be the "1st time"!

Hope your puppy is okay!

Thanks Pax

I feel a little better now. Im glad Im not the only one here that realizes that some people are so out of tune. I thought I was the only guy around that thought that. Thanks for saying that, it really helps.

Im sure shes a nice lady but If I had a dog that attacked her dog she would be just as protective. I have been attacked 2 times by boxers, personally attacked with stitches, My previous viszla was attacked in our neighborhood one evening and I have been on pins and needles with this new puppy being protected.

Im glad I dont have kids, Id be in Jail subtlelaugh.gif

Thanks again Pax and skipper yourock.gif   Thanks Ken, Noted

that's a tough one. I can't say I'd react any different; we all fly off the handle.

Look at it from the other side. . .  this lady turns to see you kick her dog. She didn't see who (what) was the instigator. So, just like you don't like your dog getting bitten, she doesn't like her dog getting beaten.

As I said to begin with, I probably would have done the same thing. And she would have too (I think anybody would).

Glad everyone is OK !

And therein lies the problem...if she was not watching her dog then SHE was being irresponsible.  If she was not watching her dog then SHE has the responsibility to ascertain what happened before flying off the handle.  I am sick and tired of excuses for people shirking their personal responsibilities.

What's next...she had a bad childhood and her dog is acting out because of it?...BS...people make choices, and they are responsible for their choices...whether they and others are "man" enough to accept it or not!

Hucky attempted to apologize (a little wuusey, I think)...she was in the wrong and failed as a pet owner and as a person...to attempt to excuse her is incomprehensible to me!

Heres the deal

The public dog park is leash free, My dog has been there 5 times previous 4 times he was very intimidated by the others being a baby pup, he would stay between my legs and step out now and then to get sniffed or be sniffed, Today was the grand finale he actually went out and about and was enjoying other dogs without fear, well a little cautious I should say.

I see a dog come running up to mine and start being aggressive with it, then it bites mine on the neck, once, twice, three times and I ran over and so did she on the fourth bite, she reached in an pulled, well I was already cocked back with my leg and my protective instinct let it go, I probably could of pulled back, but I was furious that my dog was yelping and needed my  help, It was total parental instinct.

Her dog did not yelp when kicked, and I say kicked but it was more like a push kick with the instep of my foot, very soft push kick. Her dog didnt yelp but it got his attention, the dog was in her pull while I kicked, simutaneously she pulled I push kicked, perfect timing. It just looked bad to her motherly instincts, which I also understand.

But I was big enough to apologize more than onc and in more than one way, she just called me names like a Demon and walked off.

I left in order to avoid a conflict with her Husband or boyfriend, Im assuming she rushed off to go and get him, I dont know. But here in california a conflict regardless of who is righ or wrong is an instant trip to Jail on both sides. It wouldnt look good for me to go to Jail for Fighting.

I like your thinking Ken, I also see your point Marc, but not in this case?

Thanks Men, Im feeling alot bettter.

Huck

Yea now days I'd just call the police and file a report. 15 to 20 years ago I'd have just shot the mut for attacking mine. I've chilled out some. LOL :D
